God's law brings freedom, not bondage.

After 50-ish years in churches, synagogues, and home fellowships and 25 years in focused, consistent Bible study, I believe I have identified the one criteria that is most necessary for a believer in Yeshua (aka Jesus) to really getting the most out of Bible study.
It's not learning Hebrew and Greek.
It's not understanding the historical context of ancient cultures.
It's not being able to see the patterns and interconnectedness of everything in the Bible.
It's not memorizing Bible verses or even entire books.
It's not spending hours in prayer every day.
It's not even being baptized in the Holy Spirit.
All of those things are great and will no doubt help you along the way, but the absolutely most important thing is this: humility. It's the willingness to be wrong, the recognition that you will always be a disciple, never the master, that the newest spiritual babe might have an insight that you have never considered, and that the purpose of your study is never just about you, but primarily about the edification of your community and the glorification of the name of our Heavenly Father and Son.
Are we living in unprecedented times? It may seem that way, and perhaps the difficult economic, political, social, and spiritual circumstances are unprecedented in some ways. Maybe it’s safe to say that most of us are revising our definition of “hard times” as we endure inflation, social unrest, shortages, and more at levels we haven’t seen in our lifetimes. So how are the people of God to live in these trying times?
That’s a question Barry Miller has considered for half of his life. In 2015, he shared his thoughts in his book, Know the Time, Change Your World: The Reappearance of the Seven- and Fifty-Year Cycles. As a student of the Bible and a successful entrepreneur, Barry began to see recurring patterns of economic downturn and recovery that seem to correlate with the seven year Shemitah (Sabbatical) and the fifty year Yovel (Jubilee) cycles explained in Leviticus 25 and elsewhere in the Torah. In 2022, Barry published some additional thoughts in a blog post entitled, “The Missing Manna Moment.” What exactly does that mean, and how does it help us cope with the cost of gasoline and food? You may be surprised at what Barry has to say about that in this three-part interview!
Of course, there is no such thing as a “free lunch.” Everything we do comes with a price. Barry Phillips and David Jones look at that from a biblical perspective in their midrash called, “Paying Prices” – a message illuminated by the music of Lenny and Varda and Solomon Lopez.

A Place Prepared by God: Foundations of American History is a study of American history, beginning with the civilizations who lived in North America before the United States was founded, and continuing up until the year 2000. Special emphasis is given to the providence and protection of God upon the believers in the Messiah and those who keep His commands.

Slandering God and God's anointed will bring judgment and it will not be pleasant. Be careful. If you treat God's anointed (or his anointing!) with contempt, don't be surprised when God treats you with contempt in return. On the other hand, aiding God's anointed can bring great rewards. Be generous with those on a mission from God.
