In Matt 1:23 we read: "...and they shall call His name Emmanuel" (which being interpreted is, 'God with us'.
This is the only verse where Emmanuel is written in English. It looks like a translation issue similar to how "Morning Star" is mistranslated and rather transliterated from Latin as "Lucifer" in Isaiah 14:12.
Are there any reason to use "Emmanuel" as a name for Yeshua or is it like a "middle name" if it is an actual name?
I don't have a problem with the verse if it was translated as "and they shall call Him 'God with us'" as that is a position/role rather than an actual first name.
If then not a name then should we even use it in songs to refer to Yeshua? I have even heard some Torah groups singing songs with Emmanuel as a replacement name for Yeshua in it...

Job 37:17, “You suffer in your clothes when the land is made quiet by the hot, south wind.” From this verse it’s obvious that Job lived in the Northern Hemisphere. This point of view may be confusing to those living south of the equator, however knowing this brings context and understanding and that is necessary to understanding many things we read in the Bible. Weather conditions other than rain are mentioned over fifty times in the Bible and our Creator uses our observation of weather to get our attention.
Thought for Today: Thursday May 08
There is no Psalm better known and better loved than Psalm 23, which probably owes its origin (humanly speaking) to David’s childhood years as shepherd. But has it become so familiar to us that we forgot its riches? Look at the verses, they tell us first of all that YHVH is like a Shepherd to us – guiding us, keeping us safe, protecting us from our enemies and giving us everything we need to sustain our lives. But they also hint at our tendency to wonder and get into trouble, like the lost sheep in one of Yeshua’s parables. (Luke 15:17). So, no matter what lies ahead today, remember that the All-Knowing, All-Caring and All-Loving Shepherd is with you today.

this being a reference to isaiah 7:14, the diffs is E instead of I starting the name off.
but, i see it as far more than just a position/role, 'God with us'.
He is a sign.
in isaiah 7 ahaz is really testing YHWH.
rather than the people continually insisting on a sign of YHWH, He now offers one and the people, in the form of ahaz, suddenly don't want one.
now the sign (and symbol) is both the form of birth and the Name.
because ch 8 goes further. in verse 18 isaiah says
Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me as signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD of Hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.
this entire passage, not limiting it by chapter constraints, has to do with the 'sign and symbol' that is Immanuel, and isaiah's reference to his children is as a reciprocal 'sign and symbol'.
and that in turn brings us to hebrews 2:13, referencing isaiah 8:18 (and 17)
And again:
“I will put My trust in Him.”
And once again:
“Here am I, and the children God has given Me.”
and now we're talking about Yeshua's sanctification of His family, His followers, who are again a reciprocal 'sign and symbol'.
(for we who are born again of the Spirit, do we spirit beings have a physical father? or, as Emmanuel, is our Father not the Spirit?)
is this giving you anything useful?
