Visions in Revelation

The book of #revelation has many signs describing different events and many are described by John as being "like XYZ" as he didn't understand what he was seeing. But he always tried to explain what he saw and wasn't using hyperbole or else it wouldn't be an accurate writing of what he was shown.

What I don't understand is why doesn't he ever describe anything like a chariot without horses, but always talks about horsemen and their horses? Or, why not tell of fire and smoke coming from something like a staff that kills people rather than always talking about swords? A mushroom cloud or large fiery boats in the sky...

These would be very true descriptions for vehicles, guns, nuclear bombs and airplanes by someone who doesn't know what he is seeing. But yet he always uses warfare tools of his age to describe his visions.

Might it be that future wars will be waged with horses and swords again?

Or, might it be that he did see what he wrote and nothing different?

nor will they train for war anymore.

My personal belief, there is an EMP type event coming. IDK how it will take out guns, but YHWH can do wonders.

Or is John describing exactly what he saw with no hyperbole? Don’t forget that the Revelation is a vision. Just like the “prophets” of old seeing wheels in wheels and statues made of all different metals and weird animals doing weird things and cows eating cows and grain eating grain etc. The Revelation should rightly be viewed in similar fashion - representative. It’s true but it doesn’t mean what he was seeing was things he couldn’t understand. Or that the things will be literally what he saw. No more than Kepha’s dream was really telling him to eat abominations.
I personally don’t think a mountain will literally fall out of space, somehow land only on the rivers and do nothing more than turn them bitter. As in most dreams things are very strange and make sense till we wake and try to think on them with reasoning minds.

Rhy, my thoughts. The vision, and the content of the vision, was given by YHWH. The purpose was to simply convey events evens…past, present, and future. John did the best he could to describe what he “saw” with words he knew, and with objects and symbols that he was familiar with. If YHWH used 21st century objects like space shuttles, sub-atomic particles, lazer beams, MRI images, etc etc. John would have not have been able to describe those things. God gave John a vision that John could describe… and one that conveys the events and message that God wanted us to understand. I can be content with that.
