So often Christian folks will call the Torah “The Law of Moses”. And it’s not incorrect in itself as even though the word “Torah” doesn’t mean “Law” but rather “Instruction” nevertheless these instructions were established as Law for Israel . And while they were spoken to us by Moses, Moses was the one repeating what he had heard upon the mountain.
The Torah is many things and can be called many things, but it is interesting that Christians choose “Law of Moses” most often. And why? Because, by that designation, it is easier to act as if these are the commandments of Moses himself and not those of the Most High. And when it is easier to act as if they are Moses’ words as opposed to the Almighty’s then they are more easily set aside or thrown away.
How we treat the Torah is determined predominantly by how we see it. If we choose to look at these instructions from YHWH Himself handed to us through Moses, as if they are originating from Moses’ himself and as rules instead of teachings, then we are going to want them to be man-made and momentary.
Seeing with that twisted vision we will desire to find (and will find) that the Torah was only temprary and can be tossed out. And it was not just temporary but also terrible. We will read ourselves out quickly and we’ll do so triumphantly.
But Moses told us these are the Words of YHWH directly, and we have no reason to doubt him. He told us they come from the Father Almighty and that we are to do them in The Land we go to possess.
Yes we live in exile. Born in exile and will likely die here also. And in The Land of Promise is the only place in the world these statutes and judgments, these Divine Instructions can be properly practiced. So why bother?
That goes again to our perspective: if these are the Commandments of Moses himself, and they are impossible to perform properly in our present day and place and we don’t wanna do them anyway, then we throw them away as the imaginations of one man and move on .
But if these are the Instructions of our Heavely Father to His people, spoken to them before they entered the Promiseland, so that they could practice for when they arrived then we should not be saying that they are impossible and tossing them away, but that we are going to do as much as possible, whenever possible, wherever possible, and however possible.
“ …therefore keep and do them: for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations…“
Pastors and preachers tell us how foolish it is to follow the Torah, and how much we lack understanding acting in accordance with its Instructions. Yet when Moses spoke these Words of YHWH to us in anceint days, he said it is wisdom and understanding to follow them.
And not only is this Torah of YHWH established as wisdom for Israel, but Moses also went on to mention that if we did these things written therein, that it would be heard and seen by other nations who would marvel at our actions saying that we who follow Torah are a wise and understanding people.
Living according to the Instructions of YHWH given to us by His servant, Moses, is not only wisdom but an advertisement for and a definition of wisdom… And perhaps most interesting of all is that this was noticed by the ancient pagans. They saw Israel when we lived like the Instructions of the Almighty Elohim say to live, and they said that these ways were wise.
How far have supposedly-holy people strayed from The Way that these days even those who have endless access to the Instructions themselves and are even reckoned as teachers there of, look at them and those of us who follow them and call it all and all of us, folly and foolish. Those ancient pagans did not practice Torah either but they could see its wisdom in the results. Yet modern Christians can’t.
They cannot see and largely because for so long they have been told these things are Jewish, and they leave it at that. They don’t look into it… And they gloss right over it when they read the beginning of the Book, believing there is nothing practical there for them, and therefore finding that there is nothing to learn and to do.
But herein the commandments are given to all Israel and not just the Jews… And herein we are told that the nations will hear of all these statutes, and they will say that this nation is a wise and understanding people.
They weren’t supposed to hear that these things are Jewish and that if you do them, you’re trying to be Jewish or mimic Jews. They weren’t supposed to hear that it is somebody else’s tradition, somebody’s private custom you can’be part of…
They were supposed to hear the statutes and judgment that Moses gave us directly from YHWH and they were supposed to call it all wisdom and us wise for doing it…
But today they just call it all Jewish and call us Judaizers for doing it.
But whatever they think, feel, or believe, it matters not.… We cannot do anything about the past or the bad habits of our ancestors long ago and our wayward cousins at present.
All we can do is decide whether or not to accept the truth of the Torah that Moses gave us from YHWH as He gave it.
We can act as if it came from Moses and is just man-made like any other tradition we can regard or disregard. We can act like it is a law that could be and was repealed and replaced. We can regard all the Torah as Jewish and ourselves as gentiles…
…We can accept all the fiction that has been written about the Instruction…
…Or we can accept what is written in the Instruction…
We can accept that Torah is the Word of YHWH relayed to us by Moses and is eternal. We can accept that while it is impossible to perfectly walk in accordance with these Instructions outside of The Land of Israel, nevertheless, it is our duty to do our best. We can also accept that we do not belong where we are, but were born part of Israel in exile. We can accept that as we learn the Torah and do its commandments that this is infact, wisdom and understanding inspite of ignorant preachers proclaiming otherwise. We can accept the fact that pagans are supposed to see our actions and call them wisdom, and that they once did whether they do so now or not. And we can accept the fact that none of these things are done because they are Jewish and that all of them are done because they are the Instructions of our Heavenly Father to us, and that if we worship and serve Him according to His Instructions, forsaking all the folly of this world which they currently call wisdom in our time and cleave to His covenant, then we belong to Israel as much as any Jew… and much more-so than many who make boast about genealogy.
