“And you shall lay up these Words of Mine in your heart and in your being, and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up, and shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children are increased on the soil of which יהוה swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens on the earth.”
(Deu 11:18-21 TS2009)
The community of faith has made a tremendous mistake when it comes to our children. The Torah community in particular is without excuse because we know that the words of Yah given on Mount Sinai are good and for our benefit. We understood that it was for our good to stay away from pork even before the “science” came out. We knew that Sabbath was made for us, and was a blessing. But there is one command in Torah that has been neglected for far too long. And it's killing our community. It's the command to “teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up,”
I remember listening to Christian radio as “parenting experts” would come on to give their tips on how to talk to your kids about God. It was sadly pathetic, consisting mainly of “be sure to talk to your kids about God around the dinner table”. That's about all they could offer. Why? We don't really have our kids around us anymore. The state has them. Between school, after school activities, sports and numerous other time sucking activities, we then try to compete with the state's overwhelming time slot by having “dinner talk” and taking them to church once a week.
Moses made clear to us that Yah was to have the floor ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. From the moment you wake up, to the moment you go to sleep you should teach your children so “that your days and the days of your children are increased on the soil of which יהוה swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens on the earth.”
I would implore the community of faith to reclaim your children from whatever entity has them. Torah says that you (dad and mom) are to instruct your children in the Words of life all day and in every activity. The public schools have about a 75% percent chance of turning a Christian kid into a pagan. Flip the script. Give the God of Israel the floor with your children's education and see if God can't keep your lambs in His flock.
