The High Priest shouldn't be allowed to die in office. A successor should be appointed long before his death becomes likely and he should retire.

If a function is vital to the health of the people (e.g. priest, king, pastor, judge, PRESIDENT, etc), only a self-centered person who has forgotten why he serves would neglect to provide for a peaceful and smooth transition.

The number 41:

The flood lasted 40 days -- on day 41, the rain stopped.
Moses hid in the desert for 40 years - in year 41, YHVH called him to save Israel.
Moses was on Mount Sinai for 40 days - on day 41, YHVH gave him the 10 commandments.
The Israelis wandered the desert for 40 years -- in year 41, they entered the promised land.
Goliath taunted israel for 40 days - on day 41, the giant fell.
Yeshua fasted in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights - on day 41, the devil fled.
Yeshua appeared to His disciples for 40 days after the resurrection - on day 41, He ascended into heaven.
41 -- DO NOT GIVE UP -- your giant will fall, your rain will stop, you will enter the Promised Land, just make it to day 41.

This week we will study parashat chuqat (regulation), from the fourth book, Numbers. Please note that the study is mainly in Afrikaans, but we are also fully conversant in the English vernacular. Prepare from Torah: B’midbar (Numbers) 19:1 to 22:1, Shof’tim (Judges) 11:1-33 and Yochanan (John) 4:3-30; you are welcome to bring your questions to the table for discussion. This is our penultimate gathering before visiting our children in Texas, USA.
