The most common objection to wearing fringes today as a Christian is "That's what the Holy Spirit is for". However, there is no Scripture that says the Holy Spirit took the place of what these fringes represent. When we look at the instance of when the command for fringes was given, it was to remind the Israelites to obey God's commands. This is WITH a physical manifestation of God leading them around the wilderness as a pillar of smoke by day and fire by night. They've had first hand witness to the awesome and terrifying things God can do, yet God still saw a need to tell them to put something on their clothes to remind them of keeping the commands.

Something else to think about, as Paul warns (1 Thess. 5:19, Ephesians 4), you can ignore what the Holy Spirit is telling you. If you ignore something long enough, you won't hear it anymore. If you are tying something to your clothes every day, to where you see them, that is a conscious choice to do so. You aren't ignoring. It puts you in a mindset of "Yes, I am walking the way God wants me to".

When we look at the Acts account when the Holy Spirit came on the upper room, there is no mention of the disciples ripping/cutting off these fringes. The only place in the New Testament I can find a reference to these fringes is when the woman with the issue of blood touches Jesus' hem of his robe, the hem would have these fringes according to the commandment. We know Jesus and the disciples wore these. We are trying to imitate their lives. Why wouldn't we?

The last thing I would bring up with this argument is: when was the last time you were somewhere that the people didn't know you, and you let yourself not be Christlike? A waiter spilling your drink? Being rowdy at a sports game? Etc... Something that you might feel bad for afterward, but don't really pay too much attention to it, because after all, no one knew you were a Christian? Having fringes on the outside of your clothing is showing the world "My actions, my words, my self, is representing God, the Most High!".

Something to think about.

Thought for Today: Monday August 07:

Take a moment to consider the awesome reality that Adonai Elohiym Who spoke and created the universe is now speaking to you. If Jesus could speak and raise the dead, calm a storm... and heal the incurable, then what effect might a word from Him have upon your life?

BROKEN-HEARTEDNESS

A healing prayer to use when your heart is broken

References:

Healing Promise:
"He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds". (Psalm 147:3)

Healing Prayer:
My Adonai and my YHVH ROHI, I cling to Your promise that You heal the broken-hearted and bind up their wounds. As I wait before You, I reach out to You by faith for the healing of my broken heart and all the hurts I have sustained and I believe You are making me whole. Your healing touch is very real to me now as I pray to You. Thank You for Your love and tender mercy. As I come boldly to Your Throne of grace in my time of healing need, the mighty promises of Your Word encourage me and give me strength. Through faith therefore, I claim Your promise that the anointing of Ruach HaKodesh will bring healing to my broken heart. Help me to have a merry heart my Adonai Elohiym, because I know and I believe that a merry heart does one good like a medicine does. In Your presence Abba, I experience fullness of joy and I will rejoice in You always. When I am cast down and upset Abba, I will hope in You and I will praise You for helping me to smile again. As David did, I will encourage myself in You. Heal me O Adonai and I will be healed, for You are my praise. Thank You for the ongoing ministry of my Adonai Yeshua Moshiach, whom You anointed to heal the broken-hearted and to proclaim deliverance to the captives. Abba, I express faith to You now that this is happening in my life and with joy, I receive Your healing for my broken-heartedness. Thank You so much. Restore my soul. Renew my strength as I wait upon You. Help me to believe fully and to experience the fullness of Your promise, that the old things are passed away and You are making all things new in my life. Abba with Your help, I will walk in wholeness and renewal from this time forward. Thank You for all that You have done for me and are still doing for me and will do for me in the future. Abba, I purpose to be kind and tender-hearted, forgiving all those who have hurt me. Through Your grace, I will walk in love and forgiveness toward them and all others. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer dear Abba. In the precious Name of Yeshua I pray, amen.
