But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented.
Matthew 3:15
What did Yeshua mean when he said he must be baptized to "fulfill all righteousness"? He didn't mean that being baptized would make him more obedient or more pleasing to God. He meant that there is a proper order for everything and this baptism was part of a pattern that God established from the very beginning.

Isaiah 1:4, “Alas, O sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a brood of evildoers, children of depravity! They have forsaken the LORD; they have despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on Him.” Today this could describe every political nation on earth. The Creator was specifically speaking about His chosen people and today there are many believers who have been deceived into practicing the same things that caused the Almighty to be so angry with Israel when Isaiah wrote these words.

Joshua used a strategy against Ai in Joshua 8 that is common to all martial arts: lull your opponent into complacency by appearing to conform to a pattern. The pagan gods of the ancient near east were thought to be geographically limited. The people of Ai had heard of how Jericho had fallen, but when they defeated Israel's first attack, they assumed the Hebrew God was powerless at Ai, which made them susceptible to a feint and ambush.
