On this date in history, 08/02/1964: A naval intelligence collection platform, the USS Maddox, crosses into waters claimed by North Vietnam and is confronted by 3 P-4 torpedo boats. The United States and North Vietnam navies exchange fire, allowing President Johnson to begin overt hostilities and bombing. #otd #tdih #vietnamwar

The Torah is all about how to treat other people. Since the whole earth will someday live under our King's Laws, we should learn what He thinks about showing love to others. https://archive.aweber.com/awlist6425868/IkXIo

It is also about how to expect others to treat you (instead of allowing ones desires to control that).

Does being religious make someone righteous? No it doesn’t, being religious simply means you believe in a particular religion. Atheists for instance are certainly not righteous but they do believe in and practice the religion of non belief in a Creator God. Many people practice the religion of a denomination and have been taught by doing so they are righteous but the reality is they are following rules made by mankind and those rules are not always consistent with the Creator’s instructions.

May I put another angle forward? I believe that even atheists and secular scientists are religious. Atheists believe in themselves (idolatry) and scientists in another unknown power (the cosmos). Scientists even have books that they ground their "truths" in and some "science" you have to accept through faith as they still can't prove their theories.

A man standing at the front of a lecture hall telling his students just to believe what they are taught is the same as a minister standing at the front of a church hall telling his congregation just to believe... ?

Atheists and scientists just don't want to accept that they too believe in some higher power/being.

I have been told by people who have seen war first hand that there are no atheists in the trenches during a war. I wonder how many people will suddenly give up their own false beliefs and start looking for the one true God when they know their lives are up?

I wonder if that is also true during time of war?

DEVOTIONAL
Learning to Live Humbly

Have you ever met an angry Believer?

You may have come across Believers who love to grumble, complain, or even speak harshly about other people. Maybe you’ve even been that person at times in your own life.

If we're not careful, we can easily become self-righteous within our walk as disciples. After all, we know the truth and others may not. You might see how tempting it can be to look down upon other people, demean them, or consider them as worse off than ourselves.

But this misses the point of the gospel of Yeshua.

The gospel tell us that all of us begin at the same starting point. And it’s only through grace that we come to salvation and learn the truth about Abba’s love for us.

That doesn’t make us any better than other Believers! In fact, as Paul says in Ephesians 4:2, we should actually be humble and gentle with others, rather than harsh and critical. He says we are to be patient with one another, helping one another in every way that we can so that we all grow together.

These ideas aren’t original to Paul. They actually came from how Yeshua lived his life. As followers of Jesus, we too should strive to be gentle, humble, and patient with everyone in our life. Regardless of whether they look or think a different way, every person deserves dignity, patience, and love.

Take some time today to think of a few ways that you can grow in patience, humility, and love with others. It could be slowing down long enough for people to know you care, saying something encouraging to someone, or admitting to someone that you’ve made a mistake.

Make the decision today to live in humility and grace with others.
