Proverbs 12:26, “A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the ways of the wicked lead them astray.” Different translations very in the words used but the message is consistent, choose your friends wisely. The Hebrew word means to seek out or explore or investigate. There is a difference between rue friendship and a passing acquaintance, a friend will not try to keep you from trouble, illness or harm. There is evil in the world that would guide you into a bad situation.
"He that spareth his rod, hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him urgently."
