The year after the seventh #shemitah (i.e. the 50th year) is a Jubilee, beginning on Yom Kippur. Slaves are set free and land inheritances are to be restored to every family. The start of the Jubilee is announced with a loud trumpet. (Remind you of anything?) There is to be no sowing or reaping in 49th and 50th years in Israel. Better plan ahead!
#shavuot (aka Pentecost, the 50th day, the day after the seventh Sabbath after Passover) is like an annual practice run for the Jubilee.

Daniel 11; 33—35, “Those with insight will instruct many, though for a time they will fall by sword or flame, or be captured or plundered. Now when they fall, they will be granted a little help, but many will join them insincerely. Some of the wise will fall, so that they may be refined, purified, and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.” This should seem familiar to New Testament readers, Matthew 24 is the same warning. When we follow the Creator’s instructions, we don’t consider these as dire warnings, we see them as signs to be watching for. Watching carefully for the things that signals that indicate when the Creator is ready to stop the evil in His creation reminds us that all things do happen at His appointed time.
