This week's #torah reading begins the book of #leviticus (chapters 1:1-6:7, called #vayikra in Hebrew). Leviticus gets a bad rap: all blood, fire, and ritual. Most Christians dread it, but it's full of profound connections and glimpses into God's character. The central theme of the whole book is how to draw near to God, how to worship him. That sounds like something we ought to pay attention to. It's a big mistake to ignore it.

Jesus frequently taught using parables, analogies, and hyperbole. If you want to understand those teachings, you need to read them in the context in which they were given and not just in Sunday School soundbites.
