I have a lot of notes and replies to things I've kept over the years. Something that I have shared quite a bit outside of the comics is a series of questions and verses to answer those questions. Each question and answer builds on each other. I am going to do a comic for each of these questions. This is question #7.

Thought for Today: Monday February 17

Often, we do not know why YHVH permits certain things to happen to us. We do know that evil is real, and we live in a world that is ravaged by sickness, death and sorrow – a world that is not the way YHVH intended it to be. Someday, our Moshiach’s victory will be complete and all this will be changed, but not yet. In the meantime, put your faith and hope in the Moshiach. He knows what it is to suffer; He went to the cross for us. And because He did, we have hope even in the midst of our darkest hours.

This portion includes Moses being reunited with is first wife and children through his father-in-law Jethro. Moses greets Jethro by bowing, shachah in Hebrew, proskuneo in Greek, which shows that we cannot use this action to determine who God is without specific context. Moses listens to Jethro and establishes a tiered leadership infrastructure just before the people get the Ten Commandments. Loving God is equated with keeping His commandments, which we strive to do. We also delve into the New Testament context and applications of the Ten Commandments showing that the Torah continues to be valid and in force until the end of days.

Some people are concerned that because I have the Apocrypha and other extra books, that I will be lead astray. That won't happen for the following reasons:

1) I accept the extra books as secondary. In other words, they provide interesting information, but not used to establish doctrine.

2) I interpret things through the lense of the Torah. Regardless of what other books I read, the Torah comes first.

Plenty of folks, with and without the Apocrypha, had been led astray. It isn't the books you read, necessarily, that causes potential problems.

I have read the apocripha, and discovered for the most part, they don't add to what is already established in cannon. I have heard that Wisdom (or one similar) was removed from the protestant cannon because it gave too much power to the priests. I did not find that when I read it, but it would be for Levitical priests and not catholic priests if it is there.

We had a storm come through last night, wind and rain. It took out a section of the neighbor's fence behind us. Tree limbs were down everywhere. Our electric went out for about 3 hours. I brought a portable heater into the house to keep things warm and set up my battery banks with the LED lights. I'm thankful that I have that equipment in the event of power outages.
The toilet in the back bathroom was leaking and a lot of parts on it were bad so I just took the thing out and bought a new one and installed it. The chicken tractor in the back has a tarp over it to keep rain off the chickens. The wind had torn it apart so I had to go by a new tarp to put over that. The old tarp I had on there was a three mil, the new one I got is 12 mil so I hope that will hold up a lot longer. I put in a 13-hour day today getting things done. I'm 68 years old so I'm glad I can still keep going like that. I was up at 5:00 a.m. and glad I was because of the storm. The first thing I did was to get the chickens taken care of. When I built the chicken tractor I put a platform toward the back so they can go up there. I put pine chips on it where they can lay their eggs. They sometimes huddle together up there too when it gets colder out. Today wasn't too bad even though it snowed a little bit.

Man, that sounds like a hectic day. ? I trust your body isn't too warn after the activity.

I recall when our new 20m x 10m (roughly 66ft x 33ft) greenhouse cover was caught in a storm wind during the day when I was at work and my wife alone on the smallholding. She permanently damaged her right shoulder trying to save the rather expensive tarp from blowing away and tying it down.

God fights on the side of those who cannot fight for themselves. He has very harsh words for those who would mistreat widows and fatherless children. #exodus 22:22-24 #mishpatim #biblepatterns

A #chiasm in Exodus 22:25-30 hints that being stingy against the poor or against God is the same as cursing God and your people's leaders:

- A - V25-27 – Don't be greedy where it concerns the poor
--- B - V28 – Don't revile God or curse a ruler of your people
- A - V29-30 – Don't be greedy where it concerns God

The most destitute of people still bear the image of God. To mistreat them is to mistreat God. A ruler who allows the abuse of the poor brings a curse on himself and his people.
