What do you think of tithing?

8 w
Question

I have a friend who studied many hours and believes that tithing is no longer valid for us today. I personally believe that it is a mute issue. I'll explain why.

Every ministry needs regular financial support of some sort. Getting rid of tithes and offerings does not eliminate the need for regular financial support. All that would happen is that a different method of funding would take its place, just for the sake of not calling it "tithing". What do you think?

All the offerings required in the Torah are still applicable today, except the levitical tithe. There's no place where The Most High said that Ministries are supposed to be supported financially by Yashar'el unless it's the levitical priesthood.

Three thoughts just came up:

1. How does the findings fit in with Matt. 5:17 “Don’t think that I have come to abolish the Torah or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete. 18 Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not so much as a yud or a stroke will pass from the Torah — not until everything that must happen has happened.

2. Where are we instructed that the church building has replaced the Temple?

3. We need to confirm what "valid" means in this instance. Can't a law be undertaken or has it been done away with? Like Joe has eluded to, the tithe to the Temple can't be undertaken, but the other two tithes can still be done. We might choose not to do so, but it hasn't become undoable nor been done away with.

The same study method to show that tithing is no longer "valid" can be used to prove that any command has been done away with. BUT that comes back to point 1.

If we in any way believe that Yeshua has taught against the Torah then according to Deut 13 we have to reject Him as a false prophet. In that case, simply because the masses say that they believe His teachings against the Torah is true doesn't then suddenly make it true. I therefore have to take Matt. 5 for what it says and none of the law has been done away with as heaven and earth still exists in its previous forms.

A. The Levitical Tithe (The First Tithe) - Numbers 18:21, 24
B. The Festival Tithe (The Second Tithe) - Deuteronomy 14:22-26
C. The Poor Tithe (In the Third and Sixth Years) - Deuteronomy 14:28-29

As example, there is no instruction to explicitly say that the temple tithe now has to go to a church.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't love our neighbour nor support a cause we feel we want to. I'm saying that the strict adherence of that one tithe (not all 3) can't be kept, but we should still do the others which we can.

A thought that just came up is: where do we draw a line between which laws can be kept and which can't?

Also, who determines which version of a law is the one we have to accept after the fact?

Modern-Christians take is as far as: "if Paul said it then it is Gospel, whether it is against Torah or not."

We could then step back and say that if Yeshua said it and it is against Torah then it is the new law.

Or we can go back to the first mention of the law... So must the Passover meat be fried in fire or boiled according to the second instruction or boiled over fire; as per the 3rd mention of that law?

The book of Revelation (1)

8 w

Shalom aleichem! Silver Trumpet Ministry will be meet again this coming Shabbat (Saturday) at the home of Hein & Gerda Zentgraf in Henley on Klip from 09:30. We have ended the Torah study cycle and will start with a video presentation of the book of Revelation, examining it verse by verse. As the meeting is interactive, everyone present will have an opportunity to read verses from Revelation, while finding references in other parts of Scripture. The session will be limited to two (2) hours, after which we will address any questions. The assembly will end with a hearty meal – see below for details.

For those outside the Vaal Triangle, we are doing remote login through The Torah Network, a website similar to fakebook, but strictly aimed at those who observe Torah. We send out the link at 09:30 on Shabbat via our Telegram group, YAH’s Festivals, or upon request. Anyone can login to The Torah Network; it is free and only requires people to register once: (https://social.ttn.place/).

We meet and greet at 09:30, where coffee and tea are provided. However, we request that every family brings a dish to share – contact my wife, Gerda, on 0739346804 for the menu. At 09:45 we blow the shofar, after which we joyfully praise YAH with edifying music. The teaching starts at 10:00, with a short break halfway through, to stretch the legs. Please note that only food according to Scripture is used, therefore no pork, shellfish or any artificial products, such as margarine or similar products, will be accepted. We request to be judicious about special diets, especially gluten intolerance and diabetes. Feel free to contact us on Telegram 0837745609 or Whatsapp 0846743400 for further information. To the glory of YAH!

Thought for Today: Thursday October 16

There are three reasons that many people do not believe in the return of the Moshiach. FIRST, they claim that Yeshua’s return did not take place as the early church hoped – so it must be a myth. SECOND, the theory of inevitable progress keeps some people from believing that Yeshua is coming back. Why do we need the Moshiach to come back if we can reach perfection on our own? THIRD, the teaching of the Moshiach’s return cuts across the plans and dreams of millions of people. They want to eat, drink, and be merry and have their pleasures endlessly. The day will come that the Moshiach’s return would interrupt what they are doing.

This does talk to a question I have...

I don't personally count Paul's teaching very high, but I can use it as a barometer for the beliefs of a set of people living in those days. As modern-Christianity if based off of Paul's teaching then it will have a large impact on the general "Christian understanding" in the world.

Here are just 3 examples of how I see his preaching changing:

Early, Imminent View (c. 50-54 AD)
- Believers' Death - The living & dead transformed together at Yeshua's arrival (1 Thess 4).
- End-Time Sequence - Sudden, like a thief in the night; no preceding signs (which goes against Yeshua's teachings of the end days) (1 Thess 5).
- Church Life - Live urgently; the world is passing away (1 Cor 7).

Later, Developed View (c. 60-64 AD)
- Believers' Death - To die is to be "with Christ" immediately (which goes against Rev. 2; Paul expects his own death (Phil 1).
- End-Time Sequence - Must be preceded by a great rebellion and the man of lawlessness (2 Thess 2).
- Church Life - Build lasting church structures, appoint elders, ensure sound doctrine (Titus 1:5).

So, my wonder is why did Paul change his beliefs as he grew older as that contributes to your FIRST point as even Paul wasn't consistent in his teachings, so it gets read according to which dogma you want to preach on?

TTN app wouldnt log in since the end of Aug. Just today was able to get on. We're moved, and kind of settled. Many things still in boxes. Cats are happier here, now that theyve accepted this as home. Im happier here. I think my daughter is settling in, too. It was a needed change. A little pain, a little stress help the spirit grow. Yah's plan is always better than our plans! Hope everyone has been doing well. Missed you guys!

Great to hear you are settled now. I really-really disliked having to move house when we owned a lot of stuff. Our last move we needed 2 x 25 Ton trucks, 8 loads with a pickup and heavy duty trailer. Never again.

Luckily, we sold up everything when we moved from South Africa back to the UK and have been renting a furnished house from family. We only need a 5 ton van for our next move, but I plan to get rid of at least half of even that before we have to move again. 😁

I trust that you don't have noisy neighbours again so that you can properly rest at night.

As for the app, I published a new version in August and wonder whether you only received the update now. Do let me know in a chat what happened so that I can see what I need to fix to prevent others from having similar issues.

Great, are you likely to join them again next year? We might get a post going for good references in the run up to Sukkot '26...
