Psalm 97:10, “Hate evil, O you who love the LORD! He preserves the souls of the godly; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.” As we practice doing what is right in the eyes of our Creator and learn to recognize evil, we begin to understand the reason we should hate evil. Being made in the image of our Creator and following His instructions brings His promise of protection and deliverance.

How far do sliverists go? If the new moon is not sighted, the month has not begun. But if the sunset is not seen, has the day really ended? Does shabbat fail to begin if you dont see the sun physically touch the horizon because of clouds? Does shabbat go eternally until the next sunset seen? Do you withhold wages until you see the sun touch the horizon days later?

I was wondering the same thing earlier about people that rely on the barely to start the year, if famine or other catastrophe kept the barely from growing.

I don't think these are strictly a sliverists questions but true for anyone who doesn't calculate the day mathematically.

How does anyone looking at the moon determine the new month if the moon isn't sighted?

How do you determine the start of the day when the sun is blocked?

The Talmud has laws for these events which I looked at when I came to Torah and it actually makes sense as a guide on days when the sun isn't seen. Here in the UK, that is most days of the year. ?

Wages may not be withheld till the following day, so you will have to find a solution for your own conscience and then follow that.

Correct. It is a community sheaf, probably taken from a plot near the temple. Its my understanding the priesthood kept a barley field nearby for this purpose.
