Have we lost the art of networking? We may think we’re networking when we connect through websites, email, apps, and social media, but are we really? That’s a key point in our conversation with Morgan Phelps. As she explains, real networking is more personal and takes more effort than what we’ve grown accustomed to doing.
One of the greatest obstacles to starting a small business, or taking initiative on anything, is the opposition we face within our own minds. That’s part of the topic Barry and David address in their midrash, “Guard Your Heart,” and what we hear in the music of Laura Metzing and Jimmie Black.

Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it glides down smoothly. In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like a viper.
Proverbs 23:31-32 TLV
Keep everything in its proper place: money, food, sex, medicine, approval, alcohol, tradition, politics...everything. All things are useful tools if maintained and used properly, but all things are also instruments of death and enslavement if misused.
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.
Proverbs 16:8 ESV
It's hard to put a price on a clean conscience. It might seem at first that the riches make it worth the inner turmoil, but if you suppress your conscience long enough, you will either be utterly miserable or utterly wicked.
There's a chiasm in the #towerofbabel story that emphasizes the futility of man trying to live without God. Why was the Tower of Babel made with bricks instead of stone? Perhaps to emphasize man's creative power over God's. And maybe that's why the Altar must be made with uncut stones.
