#pinchas (aka Phinehas) was not a vigilante. Guilt had been established and sentence had already been passed against Zimri and Cosbi. Pinchas also wasn't trying to punish anyone when he killed them for their flagrant disregard of God's instructions and the orders of Moses. His intent was to save Israel from destruction.

On this date in history, 07/03/1754: Fort Necessity is attacked by a larger French and Indian force, sparking the French and Indian War. It was the only time George Washington ever surrendered. #otd #tdih #7yearswar #nativeamericanhistory

While out of order of how I want to put these comics together, with a national holiday in the U.S. coming up, I thought it appropriate. When going down the path of doing Bible things in Bible ways and looking at many of the holidays that are celebrated and their origins, some tend to lump all extra-Biblical holidays into the "pagan" bucket and toss them all out.

If that is where you feel led, I am not going to tell you to do otherwise. However, if you are looking into things and people are telling you these things, that is where I would want you to challenge.

Independence Day, July 4th, is one national holiday here in the U.S. that I can find no pagan origins for. The fireworks being shot off are simulating the gun and cannon fire from the war. (See lyrics to Star Spangled Banner.) The cook-outs over a grill in the backyard is the default thing to do on most national holidays here in the U.S.

I bring this up as there are those out there that will find problems that aren't there. They will equate things with the holiday that aren't part of it. Let's take another example of Thanksgiving. I've seen several posts during the time of Thanksgiving saying it is a pagan holiday. However, there is evidence that Thanksgiving may have been based on the Biblical Holiday of the Feast of Tabernacles. In the books of the Maccabees, historical books that were included in the Septuagint Bible, we see when the Temple was rededicated, they celebrated a Sukkot type holiday due to the previous Temple dedications happening during Sukkot. So, making a holiday based on one of God's Holy Days isn't unheard of. Which means that having a celebration outside of God's Holy Days is also not unheard of. There is also no command given stating that God's Holy Days are the only things that can be celebrated. Also, we see celebrations happening throughout the Bible. Yeshua's first miracle happened at a wedding celebration.

My point to all this is: just because someone screams "pagan", doesn't necessarily mean it's true. Search it out, look at both sides of the issue (not just one side of it) and most importantly: pray about it. He will lead you where you need to go.

Defining the Nephilim and the Days of Noah -

When we use scripture to interpret scripture, we get an incredibly clear picture of where we are in prophecy, who the Nephilim really are, and what we are supposed to be doing in the end of days.

Remembering God

Have you ever been awestruck by a sunset? Or left speechless by the meticulous details of the living cell, the human eye, the mysterious ocean, or the vast universe? How often do you think about what God has made, or the ways that He has worked?

The psalmist Asaph, wrote:

“I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God?”
- ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭77:12-13‬ ‭ESV

One of the best things we can do is remember God—how He gives good gifts, writes the best stories, and is constantly making beauty from ashes. He created us, pursued us, and even gave His own life for us.

But remembering God takes intentionality.

Remembering God doesn't happen on accident, which is why we have to intentionally commit to reflecting on Him each day. Purposefully remembering God’s bigness helps us recognize our smallness. Deliberately recalling His goodness helps us understand our deep need for Him.

Pondering God’s work and meditating on His deeds compels us to worship.

That’s why Asaph also said, “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.” (Psalm‬ ‭77:11‬ ESV)

When we remember what God has done, we will want to celebrate who He is.

So think about it: How have you seen God’s handiwork in nature? How have you seen His faithfulness in history? Where have you seen His fingerprints over the course of your life?

Take some time today, and remember God.

Psalm 23;6, “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” One of David’s most prophetic statements is the ending to the well known Psalm 23. The certainty of his destination is obtained through his obedience and David’s obedience is his victory march. David places his Creator above all else, even though David understands he needs to live in this fallen world, he is willing to allow the Creator’s instructions to guide his life. David is willing to live the way he was designed to live in his present, trusting that his promised reward was secure.
