And they struck with blindness the men who were at the entrance of the house, both small and great, so that they wore themselves out groping for the door.
Genesis 19:11
The Sodomites had been struck blind, but kept trying to assault Lot and his guests. Typical of people who are determined to act wickedly. They are driven by their demonic masters to destroy themselves in flailing against the intrepid power of YHWH and are seldom swayed by any reasoned argument.
This is one of the reasons we know that Good wins in the end. Evil always destroys itself in time.
The Sodomites hadn't shown any interest in abusing Lot's family before God came to judge them. When Lot offered to send his daughters out to them instead of his two guests, he shouldn't have been surprised when they declined. The object of their lust and wrath appeared to be directed at strangers rather than their own people. They were guilty of terrible sexual sins and idolatry, but the defining characteristic of their wickedness seems to have been hostility to strangers.

23Let us hold fast the confession of our expectation without yielding, for He who promised is trustworthy.
24And let us be concerned for one another in order to stir up love and good works,a
25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging, and so much more as you see the Day coming near.
Hebrews 10
10But the day of יהוה shall come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with intense heat, and the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up.
11Seeing all these are to be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be in set-apart behaviour and reverence,
