With my brothers, I was least,
Youngest at my father’s feast.
I watched his sheep upon the hill,
Obeying there my father’s will.
My hands a harp of joy did make;
My fingers formed a lyre to wake.
Songs to Yah my heart would bring.
Who but He could hear me sing?
It’s Yah who hears, my Lord and King,
His voice commands, His praises ring;
He sent His angel from on high,
To lift me from the fields nearby.
From tending sheep, He called my name,
Anointed me with holy flame;
My brothers stood both fair and tall:
Yah choose them not; Yah sees all.
I faced the Pulishtee with zeal,
He cursed me by his gods not real;
With sling and stone I struck him down,
To claim for Yah the victor’s crown.
His sword I seized, his head I hewed,
Yah's land from shame was thus renewed;
For Yisra’el was freed that day,
When Yah did turn their fear away.
Traditions and legends alter the actual events of history. As you celebrate whichever holiday you choose to observe, take some time to remember the most important component is our Creator. Deuteronomy 12:3 — 4, “Tear down their altars. Smash their holy stone pillars. Burn their Asherah idols. Cut down their idols. Destroy their names from those places. Don’t worship the Lord your God that way.”
