Merari was the least of the Levitical clans, but they were still essential. They cared for the structure of the Tabernacle.

Moses, Aaron, and Aaron's sons were separated from the rest of Merari and elevated to the status of a separate clan within Levi. That reminds me of Joseph and his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.
