Numbers 1; 2—3, ““Count all the people of Israel. List the name of each man with his family and family group. You and Aaron must count all the men of Israel 20 years old or older. They will serve in the army of Israel. List them by their divisions.” This may sound like an easy task but at the time it was a serious undertaking. Not everyone tracked their age like we do today. the needed to calculate how old the men were by the events that happened when they were born. they needed to calculate the numbers and list them much like we use spread sheets today and all of this was done without a computer. Yes, we find math in the Bible also, our Creator is teaching His people the proper way to count.
