As believers in Yeshua, we have a clearer view of Chanukkah as it fits into Yahweh's plan of salvation. The first time the "abomination of desolation" was established was approximately 200 years before Yeshua when the Greeks defiled the temple. This event gives us quite an insight as to identifying the future Lawless One mentioned by the Apostle Paul.

The signet ring, clothes, marriage, and royal tour of Egypt in #genesis 41 were necessary for the Egyptian people to respect Joseph's position. To the Egyptians, he became as an Egyptian, as Paul said he did with the Greeks. (Not that he adopted their religion and immoral behavior, but he adapted to their culture without violating God's Law.) This also set the stage for some very important prophetic foreshadowing of the Messiah later in Joseph's life.

And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-paneah. And he gave him in marriage Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On. So Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

Judah, Joseph, and Moses all married the daughters of foreign priests. I wonder if David followed this same pattern, and Bathsheba or Abigail came from a priestly line.
#yeshua follows this pattern in a sense. We are redeemed from slavery to foreign gods by being made into the Bride of Christ, a nation of former slaves taken from Egypt and continually adopting more from among the nations.
Christmas is pagan.
Hanukkah is pagan.
Thanksgiving Day is pagan.
Your momma might be pagan, but that doesn't make any of those statements either true or false. There are no primary sources on the origins of Christmas. None. I like to leave certainty about things that cannot be known by any means available to ordinary people to the prophets.
We can, however, look at circumstantial evidence and draw reasonable conclusions. In my opinion, the weight of evidence points to a majority pagan origin for Christmas and a majority non-pagan origin for Hanukkah. Thanksgiving Day pagan? This is me giving you a squinty side-eye on that one....
Whatever you conclude about these things, just be very careful about accusing "the brethren" based on shadowy circumstantial evidence.
Here are more of my thoughts on the matter. Take them or leave them...
