In Matthew 19:24 in the story of the rich young ruler, the word for "camel" might actually refer to a gamla, which was a rope used to dock a boat. "Easier for a gamla to go through the eye of a needle" could have been a common idiom among sailors and fishermen.

And God said to Noah, "I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth."
Genesis 6:13

All life on earth suffered in the Flood for man's sins. Fathers, rulers, employers take note. You have a responsibility to all those under your authority to hold yourself to higher standards.

But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.
Genesis 6:18

Those under Noah's authority were saved because of his faithfulness. Fathers, rulers, employers take note. By your obedience to God, you have the power to elevate those under your care.

"Violence never solved anything" is an ignorant and foolish statement. Just ask Noah, Abraham, Moses, Gideon, or David. Violence solved a lot of problems for them.

Violence is a tool, like diplomacy. You can't use a hammer for every carpentry task, and you can't use words to resolve every conflict. Sometimes heads must be broken.

Genesis 6:12 says "All flesh had corrupted their way on the earth." Do animals have moral agency? Or were they just irredeemably corrupted by their contact with humanity?

How was it possible that only one man, out of all the millions that must have been on the earth, remained righteous? You've heard the axiom that "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch"? What would happen to you if you were the only good apple among millions of rotten ones? Yet Noah kept the faith. Your community contributes to your righteousness. It can elevate you or drag you down. Choose your friends and guard your time carefully.

When God hides His face, we are at the mercy of the elements and spirits of the world. God often uses nature as a blacksmith and forge to refine and shape us. Judgment is painful, but don't fear it. Fear God instead. Work with his correction, not against it.
