Our Templar forbears had many great traditions to aid them in obedience to the Father Almighty, among which was the daily recitation of their code. It was uttered once in the morning, once at noonday and once in the evening. Yet as the day progressed it grew shorter and more succinct 7 points to 5 points to 3 points. Though with the passage of time, only a bit of a twisted rendition of the noon utterance is remembered by most, and it’s wrongly remembered as an oath, this was never spoken by our ancient brothers as a promise of any kind. Instead these sayings were repeated daily to drive the points home of how we are to be. As the day goes on they become most succinct because we have hopefully been doing them and developing discipline in them. Taking them to heart and making them wholly a part of ourselves so that by the end of the day we can state a few simple phrases and know that we know what they all entail and that they have been internalized.

From Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them,” While many today seek fame an fortune through social media, the Bible uses some very negative language to describe those who are willing to do anything to become rich and famous. Proverbs 25:27, “It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it glorious to seek one's own glory.”
