Moses and God gave Joshua subtly different instructions in Deuteronomy 31. The difference between them reveals something profound about the role of Messiah in the redemption of Israel.

This echoes Exodus 20:12 and the command to honor your parents. The implication is that treasuring and obeying the instruction of your parents is integral to honoring them. The blessings that come from obedience presuppose that your parents are relaying the instructions of God as per Moses in Deuteronomy 32:46.
