SHABBATH – SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK

“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Blessed be He who spoke and the world was; Blessed be He – and blessed be His Name.

(On Shabbath , no selichoth are said. Read the following only.)

TEHILLAH 103

Bless YHWH, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His set-apart name. Bless YHWH, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with mercy and compassion; Who satisfies your years with excellent things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle. YHWH performs righteous deeds and judgments for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moshe, His acts to the sons of Yisrael. YHWH is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on his children, so YHWH has compassion on those who fear Him. For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust. As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, and its place acknowledges it no longer. But the mercy of YHWH is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep His covenant and remember His precepts to do them. YHWH has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all. Bless YHWH, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word! Bless YHWH, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will. Bless YHWH, all you works of His, in all places of His dominion; Bless YHWH, O my soul!

TEHILLAH 104

Bless YHWH, O my soul! YHWH my Elohym, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering Yourself with light as with a cloak, stretching out heaven like a tent curtain. He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters; He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind; He makes the winds His messengers, flaming fire His ministers. He established the earth upon its foundations, so that it will not totter forever and ever. You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters were standing above the mountains. At Your rebuke they fled, at the sound of Your thunder they hurried away. The mountains rose; the valleys sank down to the place which You established for them. You set a boundary that they may not pass over, so that they will not return to cover the earth. He sends forth springs in the valleys; they flow between the mountains; they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they lift up their voices among the branches. He waters the mountains from His upper chambers; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works. He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and vegetation for the labor of man, so that he may bring forth food from the earth, and wine which makes man’s heart glad, so that he may make his face glisten with oil, and food which sustains man’s heart. The trees of YHWH drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which He planted, where the birds build their nests, and the stork, whose home is the fir trees. The high mountains are for the wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for the rock badgers. He made the moon for the seasons; the sun knows the place of its setting. You appoint darkness and it becomes night, in which all the beasts of the forest prowl about. The young lions roar after their prey and seek their food from Elohym. When the sun rises they withdraw and lie down in their dens. Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until evening. YHWH, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your possessions. There is the sea, great and broad, in which are swarms without number, animals both small and great. There the ships move along, and Leviathan, which You have formed to sport in it. They all wait for You to give them their food in due season. You give to them, they gather it up; You open Your hand, they are satisfied with excellence. You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their spirit, they expire and return to their dust. You send forth Your Ruach, they are created; and You renew the face of the ground. Let the esteem of YHWH endure forever; Let YHWH be glad in His works; He looks at the earth, and it trembles; He touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to YHWH as long as I live; I will sing praise to my Elohym while I have my being. Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; as for me, I shall be glad in YHWH. Let sinners be consumed from the earth and let the wicked be no more. Bless YHWH, O my soul. Halaluyah!

TEHILLAH 27

YHWH is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? YHWH is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread? When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear; though war arise against me, in spite of this I shall be confident. One thing I have asked from YHWH, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of YHWH all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of YHWH, and to meditate in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to YHWH. Hear, YHWH, when I cry with my voice, and be gracious to me and answer me. When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, YHWH, I shall seek.” Do not hide Your face from me, do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; do not abandon me nor forsake me, O Elohym of my salvation! For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but YHWH will take me up. Teach me Your way, YHWH, and lead me in a level path because of my foes. Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence. I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the excellence of YHWH in the land of the living. Wait for YHWH; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for YHWH.

AVINU PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, sanctified be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from all evil. Amein.

Avinu sh’bashamayim, yitqadesh shimka, veyitbarech malkutka, retsonka yih’yay asuee b’shamayim uva’aretz, vetiten lachmaynu temidit, umechol lanu chatotaynu ka’asher anachnu mochalim lachotim lanu, v’al teviaynu liday nissayon, v’shomraynu mikol rah. Amein.

QADDISH TITKABBAL

Exalted and sanctified be His great Name in the world that He created according to His will. May His kingdom reign, and may He cause His redemption to sprout, and may He hasten the coming of His Mashiach in your lifetime and in your days and in the lifetime of the entire house of Yisrael, speedily and very soon; and let us say: Amein!

May His great Name be blessed forever and to all eternity.

Blessed, lauded, esteemed, exalted, extolled, honored, upraised, and praised be the Name of the set-apart One; Blessed be He; above all the blessings, songs, praises and words of consolation that may be uttered in the world; and let us say: Amein!

May you be answered, and may your prayers be accepted with compassion from the heavens; may your cry be

accepted. May your prayer be heard with grace, and may it be answered – the voice of your supplication, and may He fulfill in you the verse that is written: YHWH, Elohym of your forefathers – may He increase your likes a thousand-fold, and may He bless you as He has spoken concerning you. So may it be His will; and let us say: Amein!

May your prayers and pleas be accepted together with the prayers and pleas of the entire house of Yisrael before our Father in heaven and earth, in the name of Yehoshua HaMashiach; and let us say: Amein!

May there be abundant shalom from heaven, life, contentment, salvation, consolation, deliverance, healing, redemption, pardon, atonement, comfort and relief for us and for His entire nation Yisrael; and let us say: Amein!

He who makes shalom in His high places, may He, in His compassion, make shalom for us and for His entire nation Yisrael; and let us say: Amein!

Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists...wrapped up the waters as in a garment...established all the boundaries of the land? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you know!
Proverbs 30:4

Yeshua came down from heaven, ascended, and will descend again. He calmed the stormy sea, created all the earth, and sets the boundaries of nations as the King of Kings. The Father and the Son are one Elohim.

The fear of YHWH leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.
Proverbs 19:23

If you properly fear God, you will strive to live in his favor and so be secure in the fact that you are on his side.

He defends his own. "If God be for you, who can possibly be against you?"

The Torah (aka God's Law or the Law of Moses) is both life and death. The blessings of #torah are contingent on obedience. The curses are contingent on disobedience. #nitzavim #godslaw

This is one of the first articles on Torah that I wrote after going all-in. Prior to that, I mostly wrote about politics and fiction. Treating God's Law seriously turned my life completely upside down.

LAST DAYS – PART 2

A RISE IN APOSTASY

Apostasy is essentially the abandonment of one’s personal religious faith. More specifically, the biblical references to the falling away of faith tend to be in regard to denying the Trinity of YHVH or the belief that Yeshua was both human and divine {1 John 2:22-23}. And Scripture consistently warns of an increase of apostasy in the last days. [The “last days” can be technically defined as anytime after the life of Yeshua {Hebrews 1:2}, but the term is more frequently equated with the end times.] We are told: “For the [coming again of our Adonai Yeshua Moshiach] will not come until there is a great rebellion against YHVH and the man of lawlessness is revealed - the one who brings destruction” {2 Thessalonians 2:3}. YHVH is being patient with humanity, hoping that as many as possible will respond to His gracious offer of salvation, so He postpones the final deadline for our benefit {2 Peter 3:8-9}. But the longer Yeshua waits to return, the more likely certain people are to use the delay as evidence that He’s not coming back at all {2 Peter 3:3-4}. Most of today’s believers have dealt with apostasy of peers or family members. And as time goes by, apostasy is likely to spread.

A RUN OF THE MILLENIUM THEORIES

The Bible indicates quite clearly that all these events are to take place. Yet nowhere does it provide us with a timetable or even a definite sequence of events. Indeed, teachings about the last days are scattered throughout Scripture. The book of Revelation centers around that theme, but it uses many symbols and analogies that can be interpreted various ways. In addition, the information in Revelation is better understood when supported by valuable clues found in Daniel, Zephaniah, the teachings of Yeshua and Paul and other places. So it should not seem strange that when different Bible scholars study the bulk of material about the last days, they come up with divergent views of what to expect. Let’s start by taking a look at three traditional ways of interpreting the available information.

THE POSTMILLENIUM VIEWPOINT

“Postmillennial” refers to the perception that the second coming of Yeshua will take place after [“post”] the 1000-year period spoken of in Revelation. And many post-millennialists suggest the thousand years is a generalization rather than a literal millennium - it might indeed be a much longer period of time. The thinking is that as the gospel continues to spread, the world should become a much better place. At some point [which some people suggest was the first coming of Yeshua and others believe is yet in the future], the “millennium” will officially begin. During this time, the world will undergo a remarkable period of intense peace and righteousness. And after a thousand years [or so] of such vast improvement, then Yeshua returns, at which time judgment and resurrection will take place. From the postmillennial viewpoint, sin is not completely done away with during the millennium but is evident to a much lesser degree than in times past.

THE A-MILLENIUM VIEWPOINT

The “a-” prefix indicates “against,” such as in the words amoral or atypical. So the amillennial viewpoint is one that doesn’t really endorse the millennium as a literal span of time. Amillennialists believe that both good and evil will continue to develop simultaneously until Yeshua returns at the end of the world. At that time, we can expect judgment and resurrection. The biblical passages referring to the millennium are said to refer either to the current age where the church has a certain level of influence in the world or to believers who have gone to heaven. But amillennialists are not expecting a specific thousand years or so when Yeshua will rule on earth. The beliefs of a-millennialism are formulated by taking a less literal view of many key biblical passages - particularly prophecies which cannot be interpreted with absolute certainty. One of history’s best-known amillennialists was Augustine. In his famous work, City of YHVH, he wrote that the millennium would be the time between the first and second comings of the Moshiach. That was thought to be the time when Satan was bound and the saints would reign with Yeshua. Of course, Augustine lived from 354 until 430, so his theory could not be proved or disproved for over 500 years after he died. And indeed, there was considerable end-times speculation connected with the year 1000. But when Yeshua didn’t return at that time, a-millennialists adopted a less literal interpretation of the 1,000-year length of time connected with the millennium.

THE PRE-MILLENIUM VIEWPOINT

The premillennial view of the end times is based on a more literal interpretation of Scripture and therefore can be a bit more complicated to understand and/or explain. The basic thinking is that the return of Yeshua will take place prior to the millennium, and He will rule on earth for 1,000 years. Many proponents of premillennialism believe the great tribulation will be a seven-year period preceding the return of Yeshua and His millennial Kingdom. But they disagree more frequently about the rapture of the church. Some people strongly believe that believers will suffer through the entire tribulation along with the rest of the world. Others believe just as strongly that YHVH will remove believers before the worst comes to pass. Arguments can be made that the rapture of the church might occur:

(1) prior to the beginning of the great tribulation;
(2) at the midpoint of the tribulation; or
(3) at the end of the tribulation.

Those who support one of the first two options must make allowances for more than one period of divine judgment and resurrection of the dead. If existing believers are instantly “raptured” [and therefore judged/rewarded] at one point, the nonbelievers therefore will not be judged until later. And assuming that some people will become believers during the great tribulation [even though it is likely to be a difficult choice to make under the circumstances], their rewards and resurrections will necessarily be later than the first batch of raptured believers.

IS THERE NO END TO END-TIME SPECULATIONS?

So the variables continue to multiply. Does Yeshua come back before or after the millennium? Will there even be a literal 1,000-years? And if so, how does the great tribulation fit into the picture? Will the “rapture” of the church occur in time to prevent believers from suffering the horrendous ordeals described in Revelation or will they have to endure the worst persecution in history? Believers have all sorts of speculations and expectations when it comes to the end times and just because they tend to disagree doesn’t mean one group is necessarily more spiritual than another. To further complicate matters, many scholars go to great lengths to try to figure out how YHVH will fulfill many of the promises He has made throughout Scripture. The Old Testament is filled with promises to the Jewish people - especially when it comes to specific covenants with Abraham, David and others. Many promises are also made to New Testament believers. As the wick of time burns down to the last remaining days on Planet Earth, those believing in the inerrancy of Scripture assume that all of YHVH’s promises will be fulfilled. So they search the Bible to find promises and then try to work them into the big puzzle of what’s going to happen during the end times. And the more biblical references we compile about the last days, the less this puzzle seems like a jigsaw and the more it seems like a Rubik’s cube. But if we can learn to work on the puzzle regularly, without getting overly frustrated when we can’t solve it right away, perhaps much of the confusion will clear up. If you have an interest in this area of Bible study, perhaps you should read a lot of varying opinions. See how each author stacks his or her presuppositions against what Scripture has to say. You aren’t likely to completely agree with [or even understand] any single scholar. But you are likely to discover yourself thinking, "That makes sense in some cases and, that can’t be right in others."

A SURE THING

In the meantime, don’t get flustered if you don’t understand it all. No one does! And just because we can’t soak it all in and make sense of it, we shouldn’t ignore it all, either. The book of Revelation, the record of all the end-times events John witnessed, was recorded to be sent out to various churches in order to encourage them and provide them with hope! For all the doom and gloom involved, the primary message is that YHVH is always in control and will one day put a final end to all the sin and evil in the world. He will even put an end to the world, but only because He has something incredibly better in store for those who put their faith in Him. As some people look into the future, all they see is Doomsday, so they respond with terror or overcompensate by shifting into party mode: Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die. But believers see beyond the doom of the end times. For them, it is the final chapter in a history of sin and suffering. It’s the turning point that reunites them with YHVH the way YHVH intended things to be from the beginning. We should certainly enjoy all the good things of the world while we can. Sure, we will face some down times. We will suffer because of the evil around us. We will have physical hurts and emotional scars. But YHVH never deserts us and He gives us the strength we need to overcome. And for those who overcome, incomprehensible wonders lie ahead. As we struggle with all the confusing aspects of the end times, a few things should remain clear. First of all, the assurance of life after death keeps coming through. For those who belong to YHVH, this is nothing but good news. And if we really believe this, then we can even learn to have a different perspective on life when things don’t go as we wish. Our pains - even chronic, life-long pains - are only temporary! {2 Corinthians 4:16-18} In spite of such things, we can maintain a measure of hope and joy. And realizing that judgment and reward lie ahead, we are also motivated to hold fast to the instructions of Scripture. The expectation of standing before YHVH someday should encourage us to righteousness and purity. The theme of believers should be, “REJOICE and be HOLY, for tomorrow we live forever.” If we downplay the importance of end-times teachings, we might miss out on some realities that should inspire us throughout our lifetimes. But if we continue to struggle with understanding such things - muddled though our thinking might be - we will eventually come to some rewarding insights.

LAST DAYS – PART 1

5 w

WHAT DOE THE BIBLE MEAN BY THE “LAST DAYS”?

"In the last days YHVH said, I will pour out My Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions and your old men will dream dreams." {Acts 2:17} Peter began his first message after the resurrection of Yeshua Moshiach with a quote from the Old Testament. Not everything mentioned in Joel 2:28-29 was happening that particular morning. But YHVH’s Spirit filling the disciples was unmistakable and needed an explanation. “The last days” is another way of saying “from now on.” All the days between the Moshiach’s first and second comings are included. “That great and glorious Day of Adonai” {2:20} denotes the whole believer’s faith age. Even Moses yearned for Adonai to put His Spirit on everyone {Numbers 11:29}. At Shavuot, the Holy Spirit was released throughout the entire world - to men, women, slaves, Jews, Gentiles. Now everyone can receive the Spirit. This was a revolutionary thought for first-century Jews. Even today, knowing we are living in the last days, this truth should deeply affect the way we live. Non-believers find it hard to believe we are living in the last days. "First, I want to remind you that in the last days there will be scoffers who will laugh at the truth and do every evil thing they desire. This will be their argument: 'Yeshua promised to come back, did He? Then where is He? Why, as far back as anyone can remember, everything has remained exactly the same since the world was first created.'” {2 Peter 3:3-4} "In the last days” scoffers will say that Yeshua is never coming back, but Peter refutes their argument by explaining YHVH’s mastery over time. The “last days” is the time between the Moshiach’s first and second comings; thus we, like Peter, live in the last days. We must do the work to which YHVH has called us and believe that He will return as He promised. By our standards, the last days may be a long period of time. YHVH may have seemed slow to these believers as they faced persecution every day and longed to be delivered. But YHVH is not slow; He just is not on our timetable {Psalm 90:4}. Yeshua is waiting so that more sinners will repent and turn to Him. We must not sit and wait for the Moshiach to return, but we should live with the realization that time is short and that we have important work to do. Be ready to meet the Moshiach any time, even today; yet plan your course of service as though He may not return for many years. The last days will not be an easy time for YHVH's people. "Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the end of the world has come." {1 John 2:18} John is talking about the last days, the time between the Moshiach’s first and second comings. The first-century readers of 1 John lived in the last days and so do we. During this time, antichrists [false teachers who pretend to be believers and who lure weak members away from the Moshiach] will appear. Finally, just before the world ends, one great antichrist will arise {Revelation 13; 19:20; 20:10}. We do not need to fear these evil people. The Holy Spirit shows us their errors, so we will not be deceived. However, we must teach YHVH’s Word clearly and carefully to the peripheral, weak members among us so that they won’t fall prey to these teachers who “come disguised as harmless sheep, but are really wolves that will tear you apart” {Matthew 7:15}.

END TIMES

Expectation is motivation! If students never expected a quiz, many would never study the material with any intensity. When employees stop anticipating the possibility of raises and/or promotions, their productivity tends to level off, if not nose-dive. When we are expecting company, we tend to care a bit more than usual about how the house looks and how recently the toilet has been scrubbed. The expected event might be positive [a visit from a loved one] or negative [a subpoena to appear in court]. Either way, the anticipation of the event tends to motivate us to action in order to be better prepared. And so it is with believers. One of the basic underlying doctrines of the church is that Yeshua will someday return, judge the wicked, reward the righteous and establish His Eternal Kingdom. If believers really believe this is going to happen and perhaps happen soon, they will behave one way. If they don’t believe this or haven’t given the possibility adequate thought, they are less likely to be motivated to be on guard at all times. And while believers have varying beliefs about most of the specifics of their faith, the confusion is perhaps never more intense than when it comes to what’s going to happen during the end times. Even those who agree that certain events are scheduled to take place frequently debate the order of those events. Let me list several of the expected events and provide a few outlooks that attempt to organize and make sense of those events.

MISFORTUNE TELLING

The following elements are all included in discussions about the end times. We will first look at a number of people and events we are told to expect, and then we will try them in a number of different orders to see which, if any, make sense.

THE GREAT TRIBULATION

The prophet Daniel wrote of a visit from the angel Gabriel who foretold a time of unprecedented war and rebellion. Among other things, he tells us: "A period of seventy sets of seven has been decreed for your people and your holy city to put down rebellion, to bring an end to sin, to atone for guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to confirm the prophetic vision and to anoint the Most Holy Place. Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times. After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the temple. The end will come with a flood and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. He will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. Then as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the end that has been decreed is poured out on this defiler." {Daniel 9:24-27} This can be confusing prophecy and it is interpreted in various ways, yet it should not be overlooked. Yeshua later made a reference to this prophecy and added that what Daniel was describing would be “a time of greater horror than anything the world has ever seen or will ever see again” {Matthew 24:15-22}. The phrase “great tribulation” was designated by John in Revelation 7:14. Some people feel the great tribulation includes all the bad stuff that has happened to believers throughout the centuries since Yeshua lived. It has been said that more believers died for their faith in the 20th century than in all the previous centuries combined. However, other people feel that “the great tribulation” refers to a specific, designated time still in the future.

THE JUDGEMENT OF YHVH

The book of Revelation goes into considerable detail in describing a sequence of events that YHVH will inflict upon a world filled with rebellious and wicked people. This is where we find the biblical reference to what have become known as the four horsemen of the Apocalypse {Revelation 6:1-8}. But that’s just the beginning of the terrible things yet to come. The apostle John describes Yeshua breaking seals on a scroll, each of which unleashes nasty stuff upon the earth. Later a series of angels sound shofars [trumpets] {Revelation 8–11} and another group pour out “bowls of YHVH’s wrath” {Revelation 16}, each of which triggers a horribly destructive event. The repeated emphasis is that these plagues and sufferings are YHVH’s judgments on evil people who simply refuse to repent.

ARMAGEDDON

One of the “bowl judgments” triggers international hostility that will escalate into the bloodiest war of all time. It will also be the final war in earth’s history. Located near the mountain and city named Meggido, the identification of Armageddon {Revelation 16:16} is assumed by some to be a specific geographic location. Others feel it is more of a general reference not confined to a particular place. Armageddon is mentioned only once in Scripture, yet has become well-known as a place of finality and doom.

THE SECOND COMING OF YESHUA

The New Testament refers to the return of Yeshua more than 300 times. Yeshua promised that He would return {John 14:3} and angels confirmed the fact {Acts 1:11}. The Second Coming is foundational to several key teachings, as well as the subject of a number of Yeshua’ parables. Believers are regularly reminded of this coming event to encourage them to maintain hope and perseverance throughout hard times.

THE MILLENIUM

After all the Y2K hubbub, most people today are aware that millennium means “1,000 years.” From a biblical perspective, the Millennium refers to an event mentioned in Revelation {20:1-15}. In the apostle John’s description, it is a time during which Satan will be bound and a specific group of martyrs will come back to life and reign with Yeshua. Some believers believe that Yeshua will establish a Kingdom on earth during this time.

THE RAPTURE

The word “rapture” isn’t found in Scripture. The term derives from the Latin word for “caught up,” rapturo, which was used in the Latin translation of 1 Thessalonians 4:17: “Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet Adonai in the air and remain with Him forever.” So the “rapture” refers to the “snatching up” of believers - an express passage from earth directly to heaven without the usual annoying necessity of dying. This event follows a resurrection of believers who have died {1 Thessalonians 4:16}, thereby uniting all believers in heaven. The popular Left Behind series of books begins with the Rapture and then speculates about what might take place during the end times. Yeshua also made what many interpret to be a reference to this event. In telling His disciples what to expect in regard to His return, He spoke of a time when “two people will be asleep in one bed; one will be taken away and the other will be left. Two women will be grinding flour together at the mill; one will be taken, the other left” {Luke 17:34-35}. In other words, the Rapture will be sudden and unexpected.

THE ANTI-CHRIST

While the world in general will oppose YHVH in the last days, the head of the resistance is someone who has come to be referred to as the Antichrist. [The more common reference to him in Revelation is “the beast.”] In one sense, anyone who stands against the work, teachings and ministry of Yeshua is considered an “antichrist” by this definition {1 John 2:18}. However, many people expect this end-times personality to be a powerful, Satan-inspired figure who rallies people to oppose Yeshua and the few who live for Him. At one point, anyone who refuses to pledge loyalty to the Antichrist and receive his mark on his or her body will be denied the right to buy or sell anything. The Antichrist will have an equally devious sidekick, commonly referred to as the “false prophet.” The two will work in tandem to deceive and destroy everyone they can in the last days of the final countdown of humanity.
