I will bless her, and moreover, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.
Genesis 17:16
When God first promised a son to Abraham, that promise implicitly included Sarah because they were "one flesh". In this verse, God makes that inclusion explicit.
Fear of YHWH prompts repentance, but that fear takes different forms depending on our relationship him. Before we are restored to him, we are afraid of his retribution. Afterward, our terror is transformed to a healthy and fearful respect and our repentance becomes an ongoing process of sanctification.
Proverbs 16:6
Daily I see people saying baptism is not required for salvation. This isn't just bad teaching, it's really dangerous. Unless you're dying on a cross or something, it's required and makes us adopted children of Yahweh. Who doesn't want to join the family of God?
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.
(Gal 3:26-29)
God tells Abraham to circumcise four times from Genesis 17:10-13. I think the repetition and details obliquely refers to four truths of circumcision:
v10 - Circumcise the heart to keep the covenant
v11 - Circumcise the flesh as a sign of the covenant
v12 - Circumcise on the 8th day as a metaphor of rebirth and beginning anew
v13 - Circumcision to show the adoption of foreigners into Abraham's covenant
Note that all of the men of Abraham's household who were circumcised were already considered part of his household before they were circumcised. Circumcision has never created children for Abraham. It is only a sign of what is already done.
Society has forgotten the love of Jesus.
