When Abram was ninety-nine years old YHWH appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am El Shaddai; walk before me, and be blameless..."
Genesis 17:1
This is the first use in the Bible of the name El Shaddai for God. People have long disagreed over what it means, but most now believe that it probably means "God of the Mountain".
God told Abraham to walk before him and be perfect. Nobody is perfect, not even Abraham, but Paul gave these same instructions in his letters. It's more about being wholehearted then being flawless.
The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.
Proverbs 16:1 ESV
Does this mean that God controls what we say? Here are some alternative interpretations:
The state of a man's heart eventually reveals itself through his speech no matter how eloquent and deceitful he might be.
God knows what a man is planning and rebukes him before he begins.
Whatever a man thinks in his own head is his own business, but the moment it comes out into the world, it becomes God's business too, and the man will be judged by it. See Matthew 12:33-37.
In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked.
Proverbs 15:6 ESV
The treasures of the righteous aren't necessarily material. They more often take the form of peace with God, man, and self. The troubles of the wicked are their poverty, endless conflict with everyone, especially the Creator.
