Women’s Portion for Today: Wednesday March 27

Mothers, teach your children that they can fight with conviction when they are sure of victory, because with our Moshiach and for our Moshiach, the victory is assured! (Prayer: Abba, we place our full trust in You and shall face the future without fear. Hold my family’s hands and lead us in Your Truth, amein)

Join the Common Sense Bible Study community at 7 PM CDT on April 4th for a live conversation with Dr. Dinah Dye about her personal Leaving Egypt experience. Only members of Common Sense Bible Study will be able to participate in this conversation, but membership is free!

Dr. Dye was raised in Ottawa, Canada, in a conservative Jewish home. She attended Hebrew school, celebrated the festivals with her family, and enjoyed summers at an Orthodox Jewish summer camp.

Dinah spent her teen years and early twenties deeply involved in the New Age movement. During those years, she came to the belief that truth would be based on three things: it would be easy to understand, it would be for everyone, and it would be based on love. She met that truth in 1979 in Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah.

In light of this month's Topic for Discussion:

The start of the New Year has always been a heavy discussion subject as we get closer to the end of the year. I have personally judged other when they do not do as I do or follow the Jewish calendar or the moon or whatever reason I saw fit.

There has been many posts on many subjects here on Social that really dug into the meat of the matter. I have grown through these discussions and thank everyone who participated.

I am now at a place in my own life where I truly believe that we can keep the feast in memorial, but not as a reenactment and therefore according to Scripture.

This morning in my reading, I had Colossians 2:16-17 just hit me with this awareness again. Paul says:

"Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ."

I only saw this in regards to modern-Christians saying that you can keep Shabbat any day of the week or eat anything; even if it is not food.

I now believe that Paul's message is to us as well; that we should not judge each other in how we determine the year or keep the feasts. For me, this is because we don't know what it "right" and if we do then we don't have the means to do it "right".

One day we will know and be enabled to follow the letter of the law, but till then we can only remember it and try to keep it alive in our own lives through reenactments in our own homes; where ever that may be.

What are your thoughts on this?

After the extensive discussions we had here on ttn, i agree with you, Rhy. It showed me none of us can have 100% conviction through scripture alone regarding the feasts, or even the year. Thats not to say most of us are not convicted, as the deep discussions revealed we are, for varying reasons. We can only do our best and keep a humble, open heart.

The calendar is a very complex issue, especially for those new to Torah. It is easier for most people to default to the Jewish calendar because that is the most widely used calendar. Even I do not know the full spectrum of the calendar issue. I belong to a home fellowship with different variations of beliefs, but we all agree to keep the Feast days in accordance to the Jewish calendar (except for Shavuot which is always on a Sunday after the 7 week count). This enables us to get together to keep the Feasts. If we had differences on the calendar issue, we would not be able to celebrate the Feasts together.

I learned a lot from Chris Deweese and FFOZ on the calendar issue. I believe that the Jewish calendar is the most authentic method because, even though it is not the original method of determining the calendar, it is the method approved by Israeli and Jewish authority. Just as our way of determining time is different from how it was in the past, the method of determining the Feast days is a little different from how it was determined in the past. Keep in mind this is how I think with my current knowledge and I don't know everything about the calendar issue at this time.

Q134: How is salvation received, according to Paul?

#quiz

PS: Discussions are very welcome, but please do not give the answer away in your discussions.

Hint: Ephesians 2

Through human effort
By faith alone
Through good deeds
By following religious rituals

1 Kings 18:17 — 18,  Now it happened when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, “Is this you, you troubler of Israel?”  And he said, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, because you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD and you have followed other gods.” Too often we don’t realize that the prophets of Baal that Elijah confronted were in fact the people of the northern kingdom of Israel who had been separated from our Creator by Ahab. This division continues to show itself even today.

Thought for Today: Wednesday March 27

YHVH finds joy in you. Not because you're being good, doing what is right or achieving goals. It is the kind of joy woven into the pure, unconditional love He has as a Father, for you, His child.

Vainly, though, do they worship me Greek original language Scripture from Mark 7

"Well prophesied Esaias of you the hypocrites, as it is written, This the people with the lips do me honour, but their heart far they keep from me. Vainly, though, do they worship me, teaching as teachings commandments of men."
