Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but all the men of valor among you shall pass over armed before your brothers and shall help them,
Joshua 1:14
A man's calling may at times require him to put his family and possessions at risk. The tribes east of the Jordan had to trust God to watch over their families while they crossed over to assist their cousins. The road that God has marked out for us is frequently difficult, but God's promises are sure. If he promises to keep us and our families in his protection, then he will keep them.
From some of us, God demands little. From others he demands everything. Our first task as husbands, wives, mothers, and fathers is to trust that his plan is transcendent, always leading forward to something better.
From sarah williams: Believing women, honor your believing husbands, and husbands, commit to walking in submission to the Messiah in every aspect of your lives so that we may submit together. Let us uphold one another in prayer and embrace our God-given roles as husbands and wives, returning to His ancient ways, for YHWH's path is the best path.
It's essential to remember what it means to be 'unequally yoked.' There's one stronger ox and one weaker, or one taller and one shorter. When unequally yoked, they can't efficiently work together; instead, they struggle against each other.
Deuteronomy 7:3-4
"You are not to intermarry with them—you are not to give your daughter to his son or take his daughter for your son. He will turn your son away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of YHWH will be kindled against you, and He will swiftly destroy you."
More significance behind "unequally yoked":
Deuteronomy 22:9-11
"You are not to plant your vineyard with two kinds of seed, or else the whole harvest will be forfeited—both the seed you plant and the produce of the vineyard. You are not to plow with an ox and a donkey together. You are not to wear a woven mixture, wool and linen together."
If YHWH cares about the equal yoking of His creation, it's a testament to how much He values our equally yoked relationships.
Leviticus 19:19 and Ezra 9:2 further emphasize the importance of maintaining the purity of our faith and not mixing with those who may lead us astray.
Leviticus 19:19
"You must keep My statutes. You are not to crossbreed different kinds of animals. You are not to sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor are you to wear a garment woven of two kinds of material."
Ezra 9:2
"For they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and for their sons and have mingled the holy seed with the peoples of the lands. Indeed, the hand of the leaders and the officials have been at the forefront in this unfaithful act."
A worldly people corrupts other people.
Haggai 2:12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No. 13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. 14 Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
