BIBLE STUDY LESSON 19
SERIES T --- THE ADONAI OF LIFE
PETER RESTORED
THE RETURN TO GALILEE
From John 21
During the days that followed, the disciples returned to Galilee. Several of them were together one day: Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, James and John, along with two other disciples. [I’m going fishing,] Peter announced. [We’ll go with you,] said the others. They joined Peter and fished all night, without catching a thing. In the early dawn they saw Someone standing on the shore, but they did not know that it was Yeshua. [Have you caught any fish?] the Man asked. [No,] they answered. [Throw your net on the right side of-the boat,] the Man called back. [There are fish on that side.] When the disciples threw their net on the right side, it was so full they could not pull it up. [That’s Adonai!] John said. Peter, who had stripped to the waist, put on his cloak and jumped into the water, and headed for shore. The others followed in the boat, for they were only about a hundred yards away, pulling the full net of fish behind them. When they brought the boat to shore, they noticed a charcoal fire with fish cooking on it, and some bread. [Bring some fish,] Yeshua told them. Simon Peter got in the boat and hauled the net filled with fish to the shore. The net did not break, even though it had one hundred and fifty-three large fish in it. [Have breakfast with Me,] Yeshua said. Not one disciple asked Who He was, for all realized that it was Yeshua. He then served the bread and fish to them. This was the third time He appeared to the disciples since He arose from the dead. After breakfast Yeshua had a talk with Simon Peter. [Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these others do?] [Yes, Adonai, You know that I love You as My dear Friend,] Simon Peter answered. [Feed My lambs,] Yeshua replied. [Simon, son of John, do you truly love Me?] Yeshua asked again. [Yes, Adonai, as I have told You, I love You as My dear Friend,] he answered. [Care for My sheep,] Yeshua replied. [Simon, son of John, do you really love Me as a dear Friend?] Yeshua asked a third time. Peter was saddened by Yeshua’ third question, [You know that I love You as a dear Friend,] he told Yeshua. [Feed My sheep,] Yeshua told him. [During your youth, you went wherever you wished, but in your old age you will stretch out your hands and others will take you where you do not wish to go.] Yeshua said this to tell how Peter would die to glorify YHVH. [Follow Me,] Yeshua told Peter. Peter noticed that John was standing nearby. John was the disciple Yeshua loved, who had asked Yeshua about His betrayer the night of the Last Supper. [What kind of death will he die?] Peter asked Yeshua concerning John. [If I want John to keep on living until I return, that is not your concern,] Yeshua answered. [I am Commanding you to follow Me.] This started a rumour among the disciples that John would never die. But Yeshua never said that. He said only, [If I want him to live until I return, that is not your concern.] I, John, am that disciple whom Yeshua loved, and I personally saw the things which I have written here. My record is accurate. If all the other happenings in Yeshua’ life were written, the world could hardly contain the books in which they would be reported.
COMMENTARY
HOME TO GALILEE
Why did Yeshua tell His disciples to meet Him in Galilee? Why return to the quiet hills that surrounded the lake? They would have preferred that the risen Moshiach display His power over death in the sight of all Jerusalem. The chief priests would fall down in terror when they realized they had crucified the Son of YHVH! Although the disciples followed Yeshua for three years, they still had much to learn. Even on the day of His resurrection they did not yet understand that Yeshua appeared among men as the hidden Moshiach. During His ministry on earth, He invited people to come to Him through faith. He did not try to drive people to believe in Him because they feared His awesome power. The time that Yeshua spent with His disciples in Galilee was a necessary period of preparation for the men who would carry word of the Resurrection to the whole world. Although the Gospels do not record all of Yeshua’ appearances in Galilee, they do reveal the beginning of a transformation that changed the frightened disciples into the apostles of the church. During that short period of forty days, Yeshua must have appeared often to His disciples in Galilee. After the Resurrection, they understood more of the things Yeshua tried to teach them before His death. They remembered what He had said about His mission on earth and asked many questions about the prophecies that foretold His coming. Yeshua’ answers to their questions gave the disciples a new understanding of the things they had seen and heard.
Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to Phinehas my covenant of peace, and it shall be to him and to his descendants after him the covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel.’
Numbers 25:12-13
The Aaronic Priesthood, including at least the descendants of Phinehas, will stand as long as heaven and earth. See also Matthew 5:18. #pinchas

Q97: On which year did Aaron die during the journey through the wilderness?

PS: Discussions are very welcome, but please do not give the answer away in your discussions.
Hint: Numbers 33
Zimri and Cosbi (Numbers 25) were both children of powerful men. I suspect their blatant rebellion was more political than sexual. They were forming an alliance and deliberately subverting the God-ordained power structure of Israel. They were the equivalent of a gay rights parade.
DEVOTIONAL
The Task of Evangelism
Have you ever shared the good news of Yeshua with someone in your life?
When Yeshua was teaching and training the twelve disciples, he often used imagery and metaphors that were part of their culture to communicate important truths to them. In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus relates the work that He is doing to a farmer’s work in the field.
Yeshua says that the people who do not know Yeshua are like a field of grain that is ready to be harvested. But, there are not enough workers to go and harvest among the fields. Yeshua says to pray that God would send more workers to gather the harvest.
Essentially, there are people that are ready and willing to hear and respond to the gospel message, the hope that Yeshua brings for every person. But when Yeshua says "the workers are few" (Matthew 9:38), what He really means is: there are not enough people sharing the good news with others.
As Disciples, we are entrusted with the free gift of eternal life, and we’re tasked with sharing that message with others. However, many Disciples keep their faith to themselves.
We are to be bold in sharing the message of the cross with other people so that they can experience new life in Yeshua, too.
Take a few minutes today to consider what small step you can take to begin sharing Yeshua with other people. Ask your neighbors, coworkers, or friends what their spiritual background is so that you can begin having spiritual conversations. Pray for God to give you courage, and then step out and begin sharing with others.
