Beginning July 13th at 7 PM CDT, the Common Sense Bible Study community will begin a verse-by-verse study of Paul's Epistle to the Romans.
We will be starting from the perspective that God's instructions as given through Moses remain His standard of behavior for all of his people, but our goal won't be to find support for any particular doctrine. Our goal is to learn what Paul meant to teach!

BIBLE STUDY LESSON 17
SERIES T --- THE ADONAI OF LIFE
ON THE ROAD TO EMMAUS
From Matthew 28:11-15; Mark 16:12, 13; Luke 24:13-35
Immediately after Yeshua had risen, the men who had guarded His tomb returned to Jerusalem and told the chief priests what had taken place. The religious leaders assembled to discuss this matter and decided to bribe the guards to keep them silent. [Say that His disciples stole His body while you were asleep,] they instructed. [If Pilate hears about this, we will talk with him and protect you.] The guards took the bribe and followed the instructions of the religious leaders. The story was spread that Yeshua’ body was stolen, a story which persisted even when this was written. That afternoon, two of Yeshua’ followers were walking toward Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. While they were discussing the things that had happened. Yeshua joined them, but they did not recognize Him. [What were you discussing?] He asked. The two stopped, looking sad as they answered Him. [Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know what has happened?] Cleopas, one of the two, answered. [What has happened?] Yeshua asked. They told Him, [A mighty Prophet Named Yeshua the Nazarene, Who worked miracles and spoke Words from YHVH, was crucified by the chief priests and rulers. We had hoped that He would be the Moshiach Who would save Israel, but now He has been dead for three days. However, we were startled this morning when some women went to His tomb but could not find His body. They returned with news of a vision of angels, who announced that He is alive. Some of us went to the tomb and found things exactly as the women reported, but we did not see Him.] [Foolish people,] Yeshua said. [Is it so hard to believe what the prophets told about the Moshiach? Did they not clearly say that He would suffer and die before entering His glory?] Then Yeshua began with the Law of Moses and the Prophets, explaining the various prophecies concerning Himself. As the three approached Emmaus, Yeshua pretended to go farther, but the two companions urged Him to stop with them. [Stay to eat with us,] they said. [It is almost evening and the day is almost ended.] He stopped to eat with them. When they reclined to eat, Yeshua took the bread and thanked YHVH for it, then broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly they recognized Him, but when they did, He vanished from them. [Were our hearts not burning within us while He spoke to us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?] they said to one another. They headed for Jerusalem immediately and found the eleven apostles and others who were gathered with them. The apostles and their companions greeted the two with the news that they too, knew that Yeshua was alive, for He had appeared to Simon Peter. Then the two told of their walk with Yeshua on the road to Emmaus and how they recognized Him when He broke the bread.
COMMENTARY
FROM BETHLEHEM TO GOLGOTHA -- TWO CHURCHES
Almost twenty centuries separate people today from the manger as it was seen on the night of Yeshua’ birth and the empty tomb as it appeared on the resurrection morning. Two thousand years have altered the scenes of Moshiach’s birth and death almost beyond recognition. Knowledge of their locations might have been lost completely if they were not marked by the altars of two ancient churches. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built over the scene of Yeshua’ death, stands less than ten miles from the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Both churches were built by the emperor Constantine only three hundred years after the life of Moshiach. Although the original buildings have been destroyed by time and war, the present churches stand over the foundations built by Constantine. Because Constantine lived only a little more than four lifetimes after Moshiach, the memory of where Yeshua lived and died was still strong and clear. He could rely on traditions, handed down from one generation of believers to the next, to locate the sites. Modern visitors are impressed with the atmosphere of reverence that surrounds the scenes of Yeshua’ birth and death. The ornate interior of an Eastern church captures some of the mystery of the Son of YHVH who came to earth in the form of a man. The gleam of gold lamps and the sweet perfume of incense greet the worshiper. Although these seem far from the humble stable or the garden tomb, they are meant to be offerings for the King of Glory.
Happy 4th, fellow Americans! Enjoy our freedom while it lasts. Although we will always be free in Messiah, we may be physically restrained for our beliefs soon. Sin is rampant around the world, but it seems even more so here in the US. The wicked see us as oppressors, preventing them from fully reveling in their sins. They do not acknowledge the Authority of Yah, only free will, ironically granted to them at Creation, which they also deny with their ridiculous evolution theories. Satan knows his time is short, so he is mustering as much steam as he can before his final day as lord of this world. Yah will prevail, but we must endure for a short time before all is restored. Celebrate freedom, but recognize who gave us our freedom: Yeshua!
Let the Hero born of woman crush the serpent with His heel! Happy Independence Day!

#pinchas (aka Phinehas) means "bronze mouth" or "serpent's mouth." Bronze in Scripture is often a metaphor of judgment. The episode of the bronze serpent raised up for repentance and healing demonstrates a strong spiritual link between the metal, the creature, and the consequence.
