1 Samuel 8; 4—5, “So all the elders came together and met Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You’re old, and your sons don’t live as you do. Give us a king to rule over us like all the other nations.” Those who pay attention to the lesser known news stories in the world today should take note of what is happening in Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he plans to “return to power” and with that his followers proclaimed — “Long live Bibi, King of Israel!” The political landscape in Israel currently does not conform to the Bible’s narrative for the Messiah to come because it needs to be a kingdom. If the politics does change to make Israel any kind of monarchy, it is possible that Netanyahu would be the first earthly king Israel has had for a very long time. Is it possible? Time will tell.
