What’s an armor bearer? We read in the Bible about the armor bearer of Jonathan, son of King Saul, who accompanied him everywhere to help carry his burdens and to ensure he had everything he needed to go into battle. The armor bearer even fought alongside him in battle. Now imagine what an armor bearer does for a ministry leader, and you have an idea of Kevin Jessip’s young adult years as the armor bearer of evangelist Phil Enloe! In this second part of our conversation, Kevin tells us how Phil Enloe and other seasoned veterans of the faith mentored him over the years and were used of God to prepare and support him in his own ministry efforts – even after he left active ministry!
Kevin is a living example of how the promises of God are “yes” and “amen” in Messiah Yeshua. But then, what exactly does God’s “yes” mean? Barry and David investigate that in their midrash. As we hear in the music of Teshuva and Solomon Lopez, God’s yes is a function of His mercy that invites a response from all nations.

I will turn my hand against you and will smelt away your dross as with lye and remove all your alloy. And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.
Isaiah 1:25-26
Like dross skimmed from silver, when corrupt leaders are removed, the people have a chance to heal.
Silver is refined by removing the dross, not the silver. So when Yeshua said "One will be taken, the other left..." could he have meant that the silver will be left, while the dross is removed?
Come now, let us reason together, says YHWH: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land, but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be eaten by the sword; for the mouth of YHWH has spoken.
Isaiah 1:19-20
Nobody's perfect. We all make mistakes and we all rebel at times. Fortunately, we serve a forgiving God who wants us to repent so that he can reward our obedience.
Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.
Isaiah 1:17
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
James 1:27
According to YHWH and James, the heart of righteousness and justice is in keeping #torah and serving the oppressed, fatherless, and widows. This does NOT mean that you should send men with guns to force your neighbors to serve the oppressed, fatherless, and widows. You do it yourself, voluntarily, with your own resources.

Acquire truth and do not sell it, acquire wisdom, instruction and understanding.
Proverbs 23:23 TLV
This proverb is not an admonition against teaching for hire. It is a statement about the value of truth, wisdom, discipline, and understanding. Truth and wisdom can sometimes be purchased, but the point is to pursue them by whatever means and to accumulate them like investments that pay continual dividends.
In kind of a continuation of CvB #071, when people try to say we can't keep the Law, or just showing the disposition to evil/sin in mankind, these three men along with others are often pointed out. I've even seen memes go around social media proclaiming the men in the light of the left-hand side of this comic (Noah a drunk, Abraham a liar, David a murderer) and then stating: God can use you, too.
However, this is not the light the Bible paints these men in. Read those verses I have listed on the right. Would God say such things about someone who "is just a sinner"? Or who is as bad as Christians sometimes portray these men to be?
I am not saying they were perfect and never did wrong. I don't believe that is what the Bible states either. We know the wrong things they did.
HOWEVER, as I state all over my comics, it is all about their heart. What was their heart like? We know in the case of David, realizing what he had done broke his heart to the point of he knew he would be punished and accepted it! (2 Samuel 12)
There is a dcTalk song I like called "What if I stumble". We all may stumble sometimes. What we do after we stumble is what defines us, not the stumbling. If we are believers in Christ, we are not "sinners saved by Grace". We are set-apart, striving to live righteously.
Will we stumble and sin? Maybe, but that doesn't change who we are. We are no longer sinners. (Romans 6:1-7) Sinners are who we were, not who we are. Just like these men in the comic. The Bible does not define them by their sin, but by their walk.
