So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and rescue me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who are attacking me.”

In Isaiah 7, God promised Ahaz that he would defend Judah. There was no need to ally with Assyria. Ahaz refused to listen, though, and treated God and his Temple with contempt.
[Ahaz] walked in the way of the kings of Israel. He even burned his son as an offering, according to the despicable practices of the nations whom YHWH drove out before the people of Israel.
2 Kings 16:3
It's not clear whether Ahaz actually sacrificed his child or performed some kind of dedication ritual involving fire. In either case, it was idolatrous and wicked, and human sacrifice has been a feature of almost all pagan religions throughout history.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
"Follow me" means to live as #yeshua (Jesus) lived and in accordance with his direction. If Torah no longer applies, then this statement is worse than useless to us in that faithfully following Yeshua would lead people astray. Fortunately, his teachings are consistent: "Don't even think that I came to do away with the Law and the Prophets!"
And Joshua said, “Why did you bring trouble on us? YHWH brings trouble on you today.” And all Israel stoned him with stones. They burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.
Joshua 7:25
Akan means "troubler", so when Joshua passed judgment on him, he said, "Troubler (akan), why have you brought trouble (akar) on us?"
When we are punished by rightful civil authorities for crimes against God, they are acting as his agents.
Only a couple of points I would like to make outside of what is in the comic.
- On 8:5 - the "copy and shadow" are explained in the same verse. I've heard several try to say because it is a "copy and shadow" it should no longer be followed. However, we can see from this verse that it was YHWH that ordered the copy to be made and followed.
- The color coding is to show the difference between covenant and law. I've heard several use them interchangeably or say they are tied together. However, we can see they are not.
- If you want the context of what the author of Hebrews is relaying here, this section is quoting Jeremiah 31.
