If thou seek him ... if thou forsake him
Original Hebrew Scripture from 1Chronicles 28
"If thou seek him, he will be found of thee, and if thou forsake him, he will thrust thee away forever."
אִם־תִּדְרְשֶׁנּוּ יִמָּצֵא לָךְ וְאִם־תַּעַזְבֶנּוּ יַזְנִיחֲךָ לָעַד

Then the whole congregation of the people of Israel assembled at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The land lay subdued before them.

Shiloh would be the center of Israelite religious and political life for the next 300+ years. It's significant that they didn't choose a permanent home for the Tabernacle until the fighting was essentially over.
This reminds me of Solomon's advice in Proverbs 24:27, "Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house."

We remember David's sins and yet they are forgiven.
I personally see the length of time it takes between sinning and asking true forgiveness as the level of spiritual maturity of the person. The shorter the time between, the more spiritually mature one is.
