#exodus 38:8 mentions women gathering at the door of the Tabernacle for some kind of ministry. This appears to have been a long-standing tradition that was probably common among the pagans too. It appears again a few hundred years later in the story of Samuel's mother who prayed daily at the door and in the story of Eli's sons who took advantage of these women.
