This event is often portrayed as Jacob's conversion moment, when he "got saved". It's not. He had placed his faith in YHWH decades before this. Rather, it describes Jacob's repentance from being a passive husband and father.

Physical circumcision is meaningless without spiritual circumcision. It can't make you an Israelite. Conversion to Judaism is worse than worthless. Circumcision of the heart is the only one that matters in the end.

If you think converting to Judaism is going to "save" you somehow, you'll only end up like Shechem in Genesis 34: in physical pain and spiritual death.
