Thought for Today: Tuesday May 21

In all things, may Yeshua be the Strength of your heart, the Centre of your life, the Guide of your future and the Joy in your soul.

Leviticus 25:14-55 shows seven stages of spiraling from greed to abject poverty:

1) Lose property
2) Lose land
3) Lose house
4) Go into debt
5) Slave to a brother
6) Slave to foreigner
7) Forget one's debt to God.

The progression isn't explicit, but is presented as discrete instructions to the poor man's neighbors and countrymen.

Everyone knows about the Holocaust, in which millions of Jews, Romani, Slavs, and other "undesirables" were systematically exterminated by the Nazis during World War 2, but that was neither the first nor last atrocity of its kind. People are good at being evil.

...they did not obey your voice or walk in your law. They did nothing of all you commanded them to do. Therefore you have made all this disaster come upon them.
Jeremiah 32:23

We aren't kicked out of God's house for every incidental sin or moment of weakness (not even for habitual weakness) but we still suffer the consequences. Hopefully we learn from them and don't repeat the same mistakes.

You brought your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and outstretched arm, and with great terror.
Jeremiah 32:21

God will make the nations to know his Name. That's a threat and a promise. Remember Egypt.

(And his "name" has nothing to do with how you spell or pronounce anything.)

You show steadfast love to thousands, but you repay the guilt of fathers to their children after them, O great and mighty God, whose name is YHVH of hosts,
Jeremiah 32:18

Children don't inherit the guilt of their parents, but they do inherit the lies and bad habits. Train up yourself in the way you should go, or your children probably won't go in it either.

I just had a thought; this is like falling pregnant out of wedlock.

The sin is on the parents, but the consequence of the sin remains; the child.

The child isn't guilty of sin, but bears the consequence of being out of wedlock.
