#exodus 21:12-14 prescribes death for the perpetrator in the case of a premeditated murder. Motive, sanity, and mental capacity are irrelevant. In this case, the punishment is about remedying a bad situation, not making the perpetrator suffer or even rehabilitating him. The blood of the innocent defiles the land and calls for God's judgment on the whole people if they don't respond to it by shedding the blood of the guilty. Capital punishment isn't punishment of the guilty so much as protection of the innocent.

Verse 14 implies that a premeditated murderer shouldn't be given any special opportunity to repent or pray before execution. The implication is that a lesser murderer *should* be given the opportunity to pray and repent before execution.

Interesting aside: These verses arrange murder and manslaughter in a chiasm:
Murder > Manslaughter < Murder.
I don't know why.

The trouble with the death penalty is that its permanent. Too many times the wrong person is convicted and found innocent decades later.

I had a friend get the death penalty at age 19. I dont know all of the details, but he was not a killer, even though he turned himself in. A city of refuge would have been a better result for him.

Yeshua forgave and commanded us to forgive. He who is without sin cast the first stone.

In my opinion, there are at least two causes for a woman to legitimately abandon her husband: failure to provide and severe physical abuse. I derive that from rules in Torah about what a man owes his wife and how he is to treat his servants. If a slave may go free if his master breaks a single tooth, how much more must a free woman be allowed to leave? The only explicit rules for divorce in Scripture are about a man divorcing his wife, so I'm less sure about whether or not she can completely divorce him.

I am aware of both Jesus' and Paul's teachings on divorce and marriage, and I do not believe I am contradicting either one.

A concubine is allowed to leave if her 3 rights are diminished, which would include what you mentioned, and more. She is to go free without pay: whether that means she doesnt have to buy her freedom, or whether she can't get alimony is unclear. She is not alllowed to remarry, I believe, according to Yeshua. A free woman is assumed to have the same rights.

I 100% believe that as the husband myself, I have to be the servant of my wife. I love Ashlyn as myself and will not cause any harm to her and I will protect her with my life.

My wife in "return" is not my servant by debt, but by love.

That said, are the laws about a servant and a wife the same generally so that I can pull them through? I don't become one flesh with my servant and the plan is for my servant to leave after x-number of years; unless they choose to stay or get married into the family.

So, can I then use the same laws to determine when a wife can divorce her husband?

Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife.
Proverbs 17:1 ESV

A house full of strife is a house full of deep, unrelenting misery that destroys health, damages relationships with outsiders, and poisons the hearts and spirits of generations.

The bible chapter Acts 2 records the most important moment in history to date. The events from Creation through the Gospels all point to this moment in time when salvation is offered to all mankind. This message explains how the significant events in history connect to Acts 2.
