The planting season has begun in full swing. The Bible has a lot to say about all things agricultural. In fact, as we learn about farming, plants, gardening, etc., we understand the Scriptures better. Many of Yeshuas parables were farming stor

Y'all, corporate America has heavily influenced the church and I don't know if people realize it. The left panel, the idea that the covenants in the Bible are like business contracts, is very prevalent among believers. Which confuses me as I remember growing up in church and everyone talking about the Bible being a love story. A love story doesn't center itself around a business contract.

However, usually it does center itself around a marriage. I mention in the comic to do a study on Hebraic marriage. It is so cool to see! The "going to my Father's house to prepare a place". The parable of the wise & foolish virgins. Everything in the Mt. Sinai account and events around it. There is so much in these instances and elsewhere and it is so cool to see.

The Bible doesn't speak of a business agreement between us and the Father. It does speak of a marriage. And marriages have vows, things the spouses say they will do. The question is, are you fulfilling your vows?

Let not the tribe of the clans of the Kohathites be destroyed from among the Levites...
Numbers 4:18

The Kohathites, one of the clans of the Levites, will never be cut off from God. They will always have a special place in his worship. #bamidbar #levites

Do you believe that understanding the pictographic meanings of the Hebrew letters that make up a word are an important aspect of understanding the Tanakh?

Definitely!
Somewhat. (Please comment!)

My personal opinion is that the earliest authors of the Tanakh (Moses, Joshua, etc) had to have been aware of the pictographic origins of their alphabet and could have chosen certain words or certain spellings as a subtle pun. Generally, words are spelled they way they're spelled, and if you want to communicate with other people, you don't have a lot of leeway in that respect. So I can't believe that the pictographs would be a significant element in interpreting the Scriptures, but they might add emphasis or a poetic touch here and there.

After observing all of the intentional design in anything that comes from scripture (the specific numbers, patterns, prophecies, timelines, etc), I don't think I can believe that the Hebraic character set is without meaning in its design. I don't believe that analyzing individual pictographs "opens a portal to a new plane of understanding", but I do believe that Yahweh has given understanding at the microscopic level of a single cell within the human body, as well as the macroscopic scale of the seasons and years passing by over a lifetime. The microscopic/macroscopic is there in the written words of Yah.
