Thought for Today: Monday April 18:

There are some scholars that think Job may be the oldest book in the Bible. Whether that is true or not, it certainly deals with one of humanity’s oldest questions: Why does YHVH allow suffering…? After all, how could a loving and gracious Elohim allow suffering …? The key is to understand the Character of YHVH. That is what Job discovered. No, YHVH never gave him a logical, complete answer for his suffering. But through his experience he came to realize that YHVH could be trusted, because He is Merciful and Loving. And you can trust Him too -- not because He always give us all the answers, but simply because He is Elohim!

I struggled with Job until I realized that one of lessons we learn from Job's experience is trust. Trust is not a one way street, as much as Job trusted יהוה and it is obvious that Job trusted Him completely, יהוה trusted Job enough to suggest that the enemy test Job -- and that meant that He trusted Job enough to defeat the enemy! In that context, as I look back at some of the things I have endured, I have to be thankful that I was only trusted with small troubles.
