Praying Psalm 7
Today we come to You for protection, O our Adonai and Moshiach. Save us from our persecutors and rescue us! If You don’t, they will maul us like a lion, tearing us to pieces with no one to rescue us. Adonai, if we have done wrong or are guilty of injustice, if we have betrayed a friend or plundered our enemies without cause, then let our enemies capture us. Let them trample us into the ground and drag our honour in the dust. Arise today, O King of Israel, in anger! Stand up against the fury of our enemies! Wake up, heavenly Father and bring justice to us! Gather the nations before You in this day. Rule over them from on high. You Adonai judges the nations. Declare us righteous Father, for we are innocent, O Most High! End the evil of those who are wicked and defend the righteous. For You look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous Shepherd. And as from today, we will always declare our God is our Shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right. Gracious Father, You are an honest Judge. You are angry with the wicked every day. If a person does not repent, You will sharpen Your sword; You will bend and string Your bow. You will prepare Your deadly weapons and shoot Your flaming arrows. The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. They dig a deep pit to trap others and then fall into it themselves. The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads. We will thank You Adonai because You are just; we will sing praise to the Name of our Adonai Most High, amein.
CHICKEN & MUSHROOM POT PIE
#homecookedmeals; #chickenmushroompotpie
Yields: 4 portions
Ingredients
For the filling
○ 1 tbsp olive oil
○ 1 large onion, finely chopped
○ 2 garlic cloves, crushed
○ 350g/ 2 chicken breasts, cut into small chunks
○ 250g/ 5 large mushrooms, sliced
○ 1 chicken stock cube, dissolved in 1 cup boiling water
○ 1 cup milk
○ 1/2 cup plain flour
○ 2 Tbsp cornflour
○ 2 tsp thyme/rosemary
○ 1 tsp Salt
○ 1/4 tsp white pepper
For the crust
○ 375g pack puff pastry
For serving
○ Rice & Peas
Method
For the filling
1. Spice the chicken with salt and pepper and fry in the olive oil until just cooked, not browned.
2. Add onions and fry for 5 minutes until onions are soft.
3. Add mushrooms and fry for 5 minutes until juices have released, do not fry those juices dry.
4. Add garlic, chicken stock and thyme/rosemary.
5. Mix the flour and cornstarch in the milk, making sure there are no lumps.
6. Add the milk slurry to the pan. Stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a boil until the sauce has thickened, about 10 minutes or so.
7. Pour the cooked mixture into an oven-safe baking dish.
8. For best results this should be left aside for 15 minutes to cool down in order to ensure that the crust puffs up nicely. If, however you're in a hurry like me, you can go ahead and place the crust over the filling so that it hangs over the edges of the dish. Use a rolling pin (or a bottle) and roll over the edges of the baking dish to ensure that the dough seals onto the baking dish.
9. Remove the access dough and brush some milk over the crust.
10. Bake in a 180C oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown
For serving
11. Serve on rice with garden peas or petit pois peas on the side.
“This is the harder part”, as Rabbi Steve Berkson says, the “harder part” being the appropriate interaction with one another fulfilling the second of the two great commands, loving our neighbor as ourselves. In this teaching Rabbi Berkson pinpoints the main reason we struggle with our interaction with each other, which may or may not surprise many of us.
Covering the remainder of Ephesians chapter 4, Rabbi Berkson again unpacks the writings of the apostle Paul to his assembly. And just as was Paul’s desire, Rabbi Berkson’s desire is that all those under his stewardship would learn how to do what pleases the Creator and enter into the Kingdom of Elohim.
Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.
