Deep waters are a metaphor of something hidden, mysterious, and dangerous. Sometimes a man doesn't even know himself, but another person with good understanding of both the man and human nature might. At other times a man might hide his true intentions, but a person with great discernment will see right through him.
The whole commandment that I command you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land that YHWH swore to give to your fathers.
Deuteronomy 8:1

The total destruction of idols is counted among the blessings of obedience to God's Law. Idols are not to be kept for their historical value or any other reason. Burn them, grind them to dust, and scatter the remains or God may do so to you instead. Verse 26 presages the fate of Achan after Jericho. Idolatry among the righteous is a magnet for trouble. It isn't a victimless crime. #ekev
