In Ephesians 2:15, Paul wrote that Christ broke down the wall of division between Jew and Gentile “by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances.” But what does Paul mean by this phrase? What exactly was Ham's crime against Noah to merit such an extreme punishment? Consider the crime of Lot's daughters. The parallels between the stories of the Flood and the destruction of Sodom indicate that Ham's crime might have been incestuous against his father or mother, either of which would still be against his father.
Noah cursed Ham's relationship with Canaan, reflecting the broken relationship of Noah and Ham. The punishment was made to fit the crime.
