Isaiah 13;19, “And Babylon, the jewel of the kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.” There is a claim that Babylon was destroyed in 539BC, but if that is true, why do we read this in Revelation 18;2. “And he cried out in a mighty voice: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a lair for demons and a haunt for every unclean spirit, every unclean bird, and every detestable beast.” Was John’s vision a vision of the past or a vision of the future? Were the parameters for the fulfillment of Isaiah’s statement met in 539BC or should we look more deeply into what the criteria in order to identify for which we should have been watching? Some may want to try and identify 2 separate Babylons, but that is easily countered by how a nation is identified in the Bible. Instead of assuming that the things we have been taught are indisputable facts, maybe we need to examine these things more closely and include all of the scripture associated with the events. Forensically tracing every clue we haven scripture until there is no doubt one way or the other.
