After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
John 7:1
Often in the New Testament, the term "Jews" is used to refer to a subset of the Jews, not to all Jews. John especially uses it to refer to the Jewish religious and political leadership in Judea, a collective term for the Pharisees, Sadducees, priests, and scribes.
In Matthew 14:1-12, Herod had taken his brother's wife, Herodias, contrary to God's commandments in Leviticus 18:16 and 20:21. John the Baptist called him out for it, so Herod put him in prison. Herodias then got her daughter to ask Herod to behead John. There are four lessons I'd like to draw from this story...

Who we are as individuals has the potential to determine who we are as a society. When the majority of individuals reject the sacred word of our Creator it reflects on mankind as a whole. The evil influence of those rejecting our Creator surrounds the believer constantly. From evolution to individuals choosing their own identity, believers are exposed to others who reject the Creator in practically every aspect of their lives. So often believers allow others to define their faith because they have been so influenced that they have began to question their faith. Causing the believer to question their faith is exactly what the enemy wants us to do, questioning the believers faith has the potential to lead to denying the Creator and when that happens, the enemy wins. Do not be deceived, many will come twisting the sacred word, they try to make you think that the world is right and the Creator is wrong. Do not be deceived, the God of Abraham will defeat His enemies and those who choose life will see His glory on a way that no words can describe.
