For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them.
Romans 10:5 ESV
See Leviticus 18:5. There really is a kind of righteousness in the Law. Obedience to the commandments really does bring life. God doesn’t lie. His promises are sure.
The problem is that the blessings and curses of the Law given at Sinai are temporal. While disobedience to the written command causes a person to fall short of God’s glory and warrant eternal damnation, obedience can do nothing at all to enable a person’s eternal life once a single command has been broken. A moment of hatred for a brother costs eternity, and no amount of love will ever restore it.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Romans 10:4 ESV
Did Paul really write that Christ is the termination (i.e. cancelation, death, annulment, etc.) of the Law? Only if James also wrote that compassion is the termination of God.
Telos can mean termination, but it can also mean fulfillment, culmination, climax, purpose, or aim. In Luke 22:37, this word is clearly used concerning Scripture in the sense of “central point” or “fulfillment”. In 1 Thessalonians 2:16, it means “culmination” or “fullest extent”.

For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, my fellow Jews did not submit to God's righteousness.
Romans 10:3
They not only hid God’s actual commandments in favor of their own, but were blind themselves to the nature of the righteousness brought by the Messiah, an unearned, imputed righteousness that could remove their sins and make them perfect in God’s eyes. They can never receive the free gift of infinite righteousness until they acknowledge their inability to achieve it on their own.
This could easily have been written about the Christian Church at any time after the first century. They forbid marriage and countless other activities, which God allows, and they allow--and sometimes demand--activities that God has explicitly and repeatedly forbidden for his people. By refraining from smoking, drinking, dancing, gambling, “bad” music, and more, they believe they are living a holier life. It’s all legalistic vanity.

I wasn't sure what category to put this in as there isn't one for "hearing God's voice".
