Moses making the Hebrews drink the gold-infused water in #exodus 32:20 was much like the trial of a woman suspected of adultery in Numbers 5. I wonder if drinking the gold caused some kind of physical reaction in the guilty that made them easier to identify and kill in verse 28.

There were about 3000 killed for worshiping the golden calf. Coincidentally, centuries later, but at the same time of year (Pentecost, aka Shavuot), about 3000 were given new life in Yeshua in Acts 2.

I hate those headlights. I wish they would outlaw them.

In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation at the cost of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of YHWH, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.
1 Kings 16:34 (See Joshua 6:26)

Nobody knows how Hiel's sons died, whether they were killed in the construction, struck down by God, or perhaps even sacrificed to whatever gods Hiel petitioned to bless the walls and gates. Does it matter? There is no good way to lose a child, let alone two. Hiel should have heeded Joshua's warning.

I guess we can't deduce from the story the reason why Hiel rebuilt Jericho. But it seems headstrong or arrogant to disregard the warning.

To answer this month's question: depends. He speaks to us in different ways. I've had everything from dreams, to feelings (probably more accurately urges), to people confirming thoughts, to random events. I haven't heard a spoken voice that I can recall. I don't know what I would do if I did.
