SHALOM!

Here is your question for Yom Revy'y found in today's Torah portion in Shemoth 14:26-15:26:

What occurred to the Mitsrites when Mosheh stretched out his hand over the sea?

16 B’shallach – Day 4
Sh’moth 14:26-15:26
Then YHWH said to Mosheh, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, and let the waters come back upon the Mitsrites, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.”
And Mosheh stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its usual flow, at the break of day, with the Mitsrites fleeing into it. Thus YHWH overthrew the Mitsrites in the midst of the sea, and the waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them, and not even one was left of them.
And the children of Yisra’ěl walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right and on their left.
Thus YHWH saved Yisra’ěl that day out of the hand of the Mitsrites, and Yisra’ěl saw the Mitsrites dead on the seashore.
And Yisra’ěl saw the great work which YHWH had done in Mitsrayim, and the people feared YHWH, and believed YHWH and His servant Mosheh.
Then Mosheh and the children of Yisra’ěl sang this song to YHWH, and spoke, saying, “I sing to YHWH, for He is highly exalted! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!
“Yah is my strength and song, and He has become my deliverance. He is my Ěl, and I praise Him – Elohim of my father, and I exalt Him.
“YHWH is a man of battle, YHWH is His Name.
“He has cast Pharaoh’s chariots and his army into the sea, and his chosen officers are drowned in the Sea of Reeds.
“The depths covered them, they went down to the bottom like a stone.
“Your right hand, O YHWH, has become great in power. Your right hand, O YHWH, has crushed the enemy.
“And in the greatness of Your excellence You pulled down those who rose up against You. You sent forth Your wrath, it consumed them like stubble.
“And with the wind of Your nostrils the waters were heaped up, the floods stood like a wall, the depths became stiff in the heart of the sea.
“The enemy said, ‘I pursue, I overtake, I divide the spoil, my being is satisfied on them. I draw out my sword, my hand destroys them.’
“You did blow with Your wind, the sea covered them, they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
“Who is like You, O YHWH, among the mighty ones? Who is like You, great in set-apartness, awesome in praises, working wonders?
“You stretched out Your right hand, the earth swallowed them.
“In Your mercy You led the people whom You have redeemed, in Your strength You guided them to Your set-apart dwelling.
“Peoples heard, they trembled, anguish gripped the inhabitants of Philistia.
“Then the chiefs of Eḏom were troubled, the mighty men of Mo’aḇ, trembling grips them, all the inhabitants of Kena‛an melted.
“Fear and dread fell on them, by the greatness of Your arm they are as silent as a stone, until Your people pass over, O YHWH, until the people, whom You have bought, pass over.
“You bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, in the place, O YHWH, which You have made for Your own dwelling, the set-apart place, O YHWH, which Your hands have prepared.
“YHWH rules forever and ever.”
For the horses of Pharaoh went with his chariots and his horsemen into the sea, and YHWH brought back the waters of the sea upon them. And the children of Yisra’ěl went on dry ground in the midst of the sea.
And Miryam the prophetess, the sister of Aharon, took the timbrel in her hand. And all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
And Miryam answered them, “Sing to YHWH, for He is highly exalted! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!”
And Mosheh brought Yisra’ěl from the Sea of Reeds, and they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.
And they came to Marah, and they were unable to drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. So the name of it was called Marah.
And the people grumbled against Mosheh, saying, “What are we to drink?”
Then he cried out to YHWH, and YHWH showed him a tree. And when he threw it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a law and a judgment for them, and there He tried them.
And He said, “If you diligently obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim and do what is right in His eyes, and shall listen to His commands and shall guard all His laws, I shall bring on you none of the diseases I brought on the Mitsrites, for I am YHWH who heals you.”

Tehillah 94 - Day 4 (Yom Revi’y)
O YHWH, Ěl of vengeance; O Ěl of vengeance, shine forth!
Raise Yourself up, O Judge of the earth; Render punishment to the proud.
YHWH, how long are the wrong, How long are the wrong going to exult?
They pour forth words, They speak arrogantly; All the workers of wickedness boast in themselves.
They crush Your people, O YHWH, And they afflict Your inheritance.
They kill the widow and the stranger, And murder the fatherless.
Yet they say, “Yah does not see, And the Elohim of Ya‛aqoḇ pays no heed.”
Take heed, you senseless among the people; And you fools, when would you become wise?
He who planted the ear, does He not hear? He who formed the eye, does He not see?
He who disciplines the nations, Does He not reprove – The One teaching man knowledge?
YHWH knows the thoughts of man, That they are but a breath.
Blessed is the man You discipline, O Yah, And instruct out of Your Torah, To give him rest from the days of evil, Until the pit is dug for the wrong.
For YHWH does not leave His people, Nor does He forsake His inheritance.
For judgment returns man to righteousness, And all the upright in heart follow it.
Who would rise up for me against evil-doers? Who would stand up for me against workers of wickedness?
If YHWH had not been my help, My being would soon have settled in silence.
When I said, “My foot has slipped,” Your mercy, O YHWH, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me, Your comforts delighted my being.
Would a throne of destruction, Which devises trouble by law, Be joined with You?
They band together against the life of the righteous, And declare innocent blood wrong.
But YHWH is my defense, And my Elohim the rock of my refuge, And brings back on them their own wickedness, And cuts them off in their own wrongdoing; YHWH our Elohim does cut them off.
Come, let us sing to YHWH! Let us raise a shout to the Rock of our deliverance.
Let us come before His face with thanksgiving; Let us raise a shout to Him in song.
For YHWH is a great Ěl, And a great King above all mighty ones.

In the wilderness, God didn't send manna on the seventh day of the week for anybody. There was one and only one #sabbath day and no one got to pick their own.

Man, I should have had this counter argument when I initially came to Torah as it would have put a stop to so many "discussions". ?

While on the subject of the wilderness, how many times did Father send quail as in my church upbringing manna and quail was synonimous, but I believe it was only sent the once?

Then YHWH said to Moses, "Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not."
Exodus 16:4

God already knew who they were and his promise was to Abraham, not them, so it couldn't have been a test of their worthiness. Like so many of God's tests, this one was for Israel's benefit. They needed to see their own character and whether or not they would be able to keep a simple instruction.

The double-portion on the sixth day wasn't meant to imply that God would always provide material blessings to help us obey, but a further demonstration that we would not keep the Sabbath no matter how easy God made it.

Israel had been in the wilderness for a month before God sent the manna. It truly was a test of their faith. Sometimes God makes us wait so that we will learn to trust Him. #exodus 16:1-4 #beshalach

God also didn't take Israel by the quickest or easiest route. Instead, he took them where they needed to go. This is an example for husbands, fathers, and all leaders. Sometimes the journey exists to prepare us for the destination. #leadership

This is a very timely post for my own life. I have been pondering about my own faith, whether it is truly in Father or my bank account or doctors, etc. I know the old cliche "faith isn't faith until it's all you're holding onto", but how do we know beyond a doubt that we are truly trusting in Father?

Do we have to be pushed to the point of bankruptcy or death to "show" our faith and only then will Father save us? I can see that in David's life and more so in Job, but then again, are those extreme examples the norm? Job was the only person ever to be recorded to go through what he did. David was a king in a very broken nation.

Why couldn't Peter just keep walking on the water with Yeshua next to him?

I believe snow was God’s solution to getting exercise during the long winter months. Nothing like an hour of shoveling snow to get one’s heart going.

If only we had snow here though… But then winter is the best time to also cut down trees because the sap goes down to the roots and it leaves the rest of the tree more brittle
