Little Moishe Rosenberg was so proud of himself for making a birthday cake for his mother. Chocolate cake being her weakness, Mrs. Rosenberg gulped down almost the entire thing. When she was finished, Little Moishie happily exclaimed, "I'm so glad you like the cake I made you, Mommy. I’m sorry, there should have been 32 candles on the cake, but they were all gone when I took it out of the oven."

Betty wakes up to a knock on her door. It’s 7am and it’s Mothers Day. Then Betty’s two teenage children, Suzy and Paul, walk into her room with smiles on their faces and say to her, "Happy Mothers Day, mum. Please don’t get up. As our treat to you, we want you to stay in bed and we’ll make breakfast."

Soon the smell of fried eggs and salami wafts up into her room and Betty is now really looking forward to her breakfast in bed. But after 15 minutes have gone by and there is still no breakfast, Betty gets up and goes downstairs to investigate. And there is Suzy and Paul sitting at the kitchen table finishing off their breakfast. And there’s nothing cooking. Betty looks at them both and says, "Nu? What’s with the breakfast?"

"We’ve already told you," replies Suzy. "It’s our surprise for Mothers Day. We decided to make our own breakfast this morning."

Kornblum is lying on the operating table, about to be operated on by his son, David, the surgeon. He turns to David and says, "Son, think of it this way ... If anything happens to me, your mother is coming to live with you."

#kedoshim (Leviticus 19-20) concerns maintaining divinely instituted boundaries. All of the rules in this passage have to do with keeping distinct the things that God designed to be distinct. Don't confuse one thing with another. Don't put one thing in the place of another thing or make it appear to be so.

In other words, "Be holy, because I am holy."

A challenge for this weekend!

Do not complain about anything this weekend! Does not matter how negative it feels. Let nothing bad come out of your mouth. Instead of complaining about being stuck in traffic, your response is going to be to thank our Moshiach for giving me this time to talk to You. Even if you have financial issues, thank YHVH. If there are arguments at home, address it with kindness and love, make peace, and thank YHVH for every situation. Try this weekend to speak only positive things over any and everything. It is only 2 days, BUT it may just be what you need in your relationship, in your work, or even in your quiet moments. When you open your mouth, let the first words be to thank YHVH for that moment, that problem, for food, for just being thankful. Try it and you will be surprised by how people will receive it. It may be just the turning point for them as well. Let it be a weekend of making peace with everyone in your life. Shabbat Shalom

Day 20 of counting the omer. At what age does a boy become a man? Is it at the age of 13 or some other age? Num 1:2 "Take a census of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, by their families, by their fathers' households, according to the number of names, every male, head by head Num 1:3 from twenty years old and upward, whoever is able to go out to war in Israel, you and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

WORD FOR TODAY “they feared man more then YEHOVAH”: Luk 22:2 The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.

WISDOM FOR TODAY: Pro 20:6 Many a man proclaims his own loyalty, But who can find a trustworthy man?

Im glad someone else has taken note of the age of accountability, as I have dubbed it. Those under the age of twenty were not punished with the ban on entering the Promised Land, but those 20 and over were held accountable and forced to die in the wilderness.

READINGS FOR OMER COUNT – DAY 20

Behold, I am about to fulfill the affirmative precept of the counting of the Omer, as it is written in the Torah:

“And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the Shabbath, from the day that ye brought the Omer of the wave-offering, seven complete weeks they shall be; until the morrow of the seventh Shabbath shall ye number fifty days.”

Blessed art Thou YHWH, our Elohym, King of the universe, who hast set us apart by Thy commandments and hast given us command concerning the counting of the Omer.

This is the twentieth day, making two weeks and six days of the Omer.

May the All Merciful restore the service of the Temple to its place. May it be Thy will, YHWH our Elohym and Elohym of our fathers, that the Temple be speedily rebuilt in our days, and grant our portion in Thy Torah. And there we will serve Thee with awe, as in the days of old and as in ancient years.

May Elohym be favorable unto us and bless us. That Thy way may be known upon the earth, Thy salvation among all nations. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. Let the nations rejoice and exult: for Thou wilt judge the peoples with equity and lead the nations upon the earth. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. The earth hath yielded her increase: Elohym, even our Elohym, shall bless us. Elohym shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 51

Show me favor, O Elohim, According to Your mercy; According to the greatness of Your compassion, Blot out my transgressions.

Wash me completely from my guilt, And cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me.

Against You, You alone, have I sinned, And done evil in Your eyes; That You might be proven right in Your words; Be clear when You judge.

See, I was brought forth in crookedness, And in sin my mother conceived me.

See, You have desired truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You make me know wisdom.

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I am clean; Wash me, and I am whiter than snow.

Let me hear joy and gladness, Let the bones You have crushed rejoice.

Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my crookednesses.

Create in me a clean heart, O Elohim, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Set-apart Spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of Your deliverance, And uphold me, Noble Spirit!

Let me teach transgressors Your ways, So that sinners turn back to You.

Deliver me from blood-guilt, O Elohim, Elohim of my deliverance, Let my tongue sing aloud of Your righteousness.

O YHWH, open my lips, And that my mouth declare Your praise.

For You do not desire sacrifice, or I would give it; You do not delight in ascending offering.

The sacrifices of Elohim are a broken spirit, A heart broken and crushed, O Elohim, These You do not despise.

Do excellence in Your excellent pleasure to Tsiyon; Build the walls of Yerushalayim.

Then You would delight in sacrifices of righteousness, In ascending offering and complete ascending offering; Then young bulls would be offered on Your slaughter-place.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 52

Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The mercy of Ěl is all day long!

Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp razor, working deceit.

You loved evil more than excellence, Lying more than speaking righteousness. Selah.

You loved all devouring words, O tongue of deceit.

Let Ěl also break you down forever, Take you and pluck you out of your tent. And He shall uproot you From the land of the living. Selah.

And let the righteous see and fear, And laugh at him, saying, “See the man who did not make Elohim his strength, But trusted in his many riches, Being strong in his destruction.”

But I am like a green olive tree In the House of Elohim, I have trusted in the mercy of Elohim Forever and ever.

I thank You forever, Because You have done it; And in the presence of Your merciful ones I wait on Your Name, for it is excellent.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 53

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no Elohim.” They have done corruptly, And they have done abominable unrighteousness; No one does excellence.

Elohim looked down from the heavens on the children of men, To see if there is a wise one, seeking Elohim.

They have all turned aside; They have together become filthy; No one is doing excellence, not even one.

Have the workers of wickedness no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on Elohim?

There they are in great fear, Where no fear was, For Elohim shall scatter the bones Of him who encamps against you. You shall put them to shame, For Elohim has rejected them.

O that the deliverance of Yisra’ěl Would be given out of Tsiyon! When Elohim turns back the captivity of His people, Let Ya‛aqoḇ rejoice, let Yisra’ěl be glad.

READINGS: TEHILLAH 54

O Elohim, save me by Your Name, And rightly rule me by Your might.

Hear my prayer, O Elohim; Give ear to the words of my mouth.

For strangers have risen up against me, And cruel men have sought after my life; They have not set Elohim before them. Selah.

See, Elohim is my helper; YHWH is with those who sustain my life.

He repays evil to my enemies. Cut them off in Your truth.

Voluntarily I slaughter to You; I praise Your Name, O YHWH, for it is excellent.

For He has delivered me out of all distress; And my eye has looked upon my enemies.

READINGS: MISHLE 14:18-35

The simple shall inherit folly, But the clever are crowned with knowledge.

The evil ones shall bow before the excellent, And the wrong ones at the gates of the righteous.

The poor is hated even by his own neighbor, But the rich has many friends.

He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who shows favor to the poor, O blessed is he.

Do not those who plan evil go astray? But mercy and truth are to those who plan excellence.

In all labor there is profit, But talk of the lips leads only to poverty.

The crown of the wise is their wealth, The folly of fools is folly.

A true witness saves lives, But he who breathes out lies is a betrayer.

In the fear of YHWH is strong trust, And His children have a place of refuge.

The fear of YHWH is a fountain of life, To turn away from the snares of death.

In a multitude of people Is a king’s splendor, But in the lack of people Is the ruin of a prince.

He who is patient has great understanding, But he who is short of spirit exalts folly.

A healthy heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.

He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who esteems Him shows favor to the needy.

By his own evildoing the wrong is thrust down, But the righteous has a refuge in his death.

Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding, And even among fools it becomes known.

Righteousness exalts a nation; And mercy, To the peoples is sin.

The king’s delight is toward a wise servant, But his wrath is towards him who causes shame.

READINGS: AVOTH 3:8-10

Rabbi Elazar of Beyr’totha said, give unto Him of what is His, seeing that thou and what thou hast are His. This is also found expressed by David who said, for all things come of Thee, and of Thine own we have given Thee.

Rabbi Ya’aqov said, he who is walking by the way and rehearses what he has learnt, and breaks off from his rehearsing and says, how fine is that tree, how fine is that field, him the scripture regards as if he were guilty against himself.

Rabbi Dos’tay bar Yannay said in the name of Rabbi Me’iyr, whoso forgets one word of his study, him the scripture regards as if he had forfeited his life; for it is said, only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen. Now, one might suppose that the same result follows even if a man’s study has been too hard for him. To guard against such an inference it is said, and lest they depart from thy mouth all the days of thy life. Thus, a person’s guilt is not established until he deliberately and of set purpose removes those lessons from his heart.

After last night’s storm this was laying in the yard. The beauty of creation is all around us — if we’re willing to see it.
