It takes a village to raise a child. I would give the chapter and verse but this is not found in the Bible. This is a proverb considered to be from the Igbo tribe in Nigeria. originally they worshipped a pagan god Chuku, which is basically a sun god form of religion. What is in the Bile? Deuteronomy 6:7, “And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Parents are instructed to teach their children what they need to know, it doesn’t take a village, it requires loving parents.

i'd like to show something concerning Yeshua's answer to the rich young man.
this continues what i'm trying to explain in a reply i made to a post mark price placed a bit more than a day ago of a youtube vid titled 'the Word became flesh explained' which delves into john 1.

in my reply i distinguish between the Lordship of the Word and the worship of the Father.
this distinction is actually already embedded in the ten commandments themselves.
allow me to explain using Yeshua's answer to that rich young man.
(warning, this is a thinking cap required post)

firstly, the portion of the commandments i'm referring to
exodus 20 (literal standard version)

- 12Honor your father and your mother, so that your days are prolonged on the ground which your God YHWH is giving to you.
13You do not murder.
14You do not commit adultery.
15You do not steal.
16You do not answer [with] a false testimony against your neighbor.
17You do not desire the house of your neighbor, you do not desire the wife of your neighbor, or his manservant, or his handmaid, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything which [is] your neighbor’s.” -

and the portion of matthew 19 i'm referring to (berean literal bible)

- 16And behold, one having come to Him said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I might have eternal life?”
17And He said to him, “Why do you ask Me about what is good? Only One is good. But if you desire to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18He says to Him, “Which?”
And Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, 19you shall honor the father and mother, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” -

now, loving your neighbour as yourself obviously does not mean desiring his house, his wife, or anything which is his for yourself, but as you do not want others to desire anything of what is yours, do so too to your neighbour, do not desire what is of him.
(ladies, do see through the blatant bias here, you have your male side too...but that's another topic)

so what's going on here?
by the time Yeshua arrives to the nation of israel the first four commandments have become entrenched well enough, israel has gone through its phases of recognising who is their God, placing Him above all else, not worshipping any idols, not taking up His name in vain, and keeping the Sabbath.
how well they do this is not the issue, their acceptance of this as the 'obvious' truth is.
it only took the whole process of conquering canaan, the removal of the asherah's, the disciplining of exile, the winnowing of the lost tribes, and the destruction of the temple and subjugation to other empires of the world to bring them to this point, where the remnant of the children of israel is now the nation of judah.
to put it succintly, the worship side has been sorted out.

but the Lordship side, oy vey.
the worship side of the great commandment, love the Father with all your ability, is not the issue, as far as understanding is concerned.
but the Lordship side, love your neighbour as yourself, needs work.
now subjects approach their Lord to adjudicate between themselves during dispute.
and this is what the next 6 commandments are about.
in fact, it's what the NT is about. fulfilling the Law.
go look in matthew 5, after the beautitudes, the 6 points Yeshua makes after stating He's come to fulfill the Law. it tackles the same problem, looking from a different angle.
in fact, the messages to the 6 churches in revelation do so too.
huh?
well, back to the young man. the seventh point made to him.
continuing those verses

- 20The young man says to him, “All these things I have kept. What do I still lack?”
21Jesus was saying to him, “If you desire to be perfect, go, sell what you are possessing, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in the heavens; and come, follow Me.” -

matthew 5:48, the seventh point in that sermon on the mount.

- 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. -

and the 7th church's message, rev 3

- 17You say, ‘I am rich; I have grown wealthy and need nothing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, white garments so that you may be clothed and your shameful nakedness not exposed, and salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. -

so, understanding the first 4 commandments (and performing them), and even understanding and performing the next 6, which fortunately this young man did not have a problem with (that's a different way of looking at him, isn't it), will still result in something lacking.

'come, follow Me.' says Yeshua (who's name means YHWH saves) to the young man.

by now, you may have realised this is not a simple post.
please work a bit with me here.
i'm assuming we accept Yeshua is our Lord, and the Father is who we worship.
and i'm going to work on who is who.
genesis 1 starts with Elohim creating everything.
genesis 2:4 first refines this to say it is YHWH Elohim who did so.
and in genesis 14:22 abram first refers to YHWH El Elyon, the first time the Most High is referenced (in fact that happened a few verses previously, i'll get back to that when it's more relevant).
quick jump to deuteronomy 32:8-9, where Elyon gives the nations their inheritance, but YHWH's inheritance is jacob, israel therefore.
a distinct split between YHWH and Elyon.
back to exodus 20:1-17, the giving of the 10 commandments.
i'm going to ask you to look at this passage, and take note of the references to Elohim, YHWH Elohim and YHWH.
but before you do, keep in mind john 1, what is said about the Word. in fact, you're going to have to read it quickly too.
john 1:3 says through the Word everything was made.
exodus 20:11 says YHWH made everything.
so in genesis we first see 'Gods' made things, we quickly get this refined to be 'YHWH Gods', and now we see it is actually 'YHWH'.
and you thought maybe, where does john get this concept from?
the Word (Who spoke and said to call Him YHWH), Who was with the Father (YHWH El Elyon, or YHWH Elohim), Who was the Father (Elohim), has now refined our understanding to see Who is Who.
read that exodus 20 passage again. all times that worship is referred to it's to the compound understanding that has the Father embedded in it. in fact, it distinguishes to show that actually YHWH, the Word, made everything, and also the Sabbath.
gives just that slight difference to the authority that Yeshua, the Word manifested in the flesh, has to talk about the Sabbath, doesn't it?
and also why He now really makes it clear, He, the Word, YHWH, is our Lord, of Who we, as children of israel, are His inheritance, and worship belongs to the Father, Elyon.
back to genesis 14, those few verses previous to abram, where melchizedek is priest of the Most High, Elyon, and Elyon only, and remember, Yeshua is a priest not of the order of Aaron, who worshipped YHWH Elohim, for He would worship Himself, but of the order of melchizedek, worshipping Elyon only.
now, if you're still following me, give yourself a gold star.
my brother tells me don't do that, it's condenscending, but i say no, i really mean it, this takes so much effort to follow.
please, check it out for yourself, don't just 'believe' me.

back to Yeshua telling the young man to follow Him.
this is where Elyon so loved the world that He gave up His own Word, manifested in the flesh of His only begotten Son, Yeshua, for us.
because, even as it's not enough to follow all 10 of the commandments, because we cannot pay our debt, and YHWH willingly gave Himself up, paid, for us, His inheritance (i'm stating things clearly now), so now He (Yeshua - YHWH saves) tells us to follow Him, and also willingly give ourselves up, pay, for our fellows.
this is that only active thing required from us in the only prayer that counts, 'as we forgive those indebted to us'.

i feel i've gone a bit all over the place here, and left much unsaid still, but it goes a way to showing why one shouldn't take only the NT and throw away the OT, but also one shouldn't take only the OT and doubt what's going on in the NT, it's all one wonderful T of the Father.
